Not the cdi got one offs nice person on forum I thought it was fixed but no ,revs like a good one let out the clutch shudders and dies. Are carbs easy to get out do you have to remove the lower fairing and is lifting enough or do you have to remove that aswell?
Ps. My computer is bust and I am doing everything on iPhone!
Thanks

The carbs are easy to get at if you take the fairing off, and you can lift the tank up and prop it up but you have to undo both the front and rear bolts to do that. It's a crap design.
Ideally if you've got the space to work in, take the whole fairing off and remove the tank as well. That'll give you enough room to work around the carbs and you won't bang your head on the tank when you're trying to find the bolt heads on the carb rubber clips.
You've eliminated the CDI, that's good, now that leaves the carbs. Give yourself plenty of time to do the job and don't expect to have in done in 10 minutes.
Clear a nice big space to work on and make sure it's clean. A big sheet of white paper or a clean light coloured rag is good for keeping an eye on small parts that can go missing on a messy bench. Buy a can of carb cleaner before you need to buy it.
Good luck!

You can do it with the fairing on but it's easier when it's off.

Use piers to turn the petrol tap off (it's under the tank) if you use a screwdriver you'll probably break it. Disconnect / reconnect the throttle cables when the carbs are loose.

Re: Following on from my "3tj cdi post" such terrible runnin
Thanks again so tank comes off? Nick sending me some carbs that he messed up a bit of the casing so I will take everything out of his which is standard and put in mine! Also the cdi I got must be older than mine as I don't hear the exup servo turn now and even though the numbers are the same on the label, the one I have just fitted there is a 0 on the label on on the one that was on the bike has the number 1 on it?
Make any sense?

once you have the carbs off,
first check the manifold boot's, they go between the carbs and manifold, are black rubber and have a small screw on the outside at the bottom of each (these are used when balancing the carbs) make sure their all there and check the boot's for signs of perishing, if your getting air through em the bike won't run properly
it's easier to take em off to check and clean em, but you don't have to
whatever you do plug the inlet hole's with some clean rag, if you drop a nut or screw down one without realizing when you hit the start button your engine WILL die

Also do I balance the carbs with the airbox off as it looks cramped with it on?
Thanks

Re: Following on from my "3tj cdi post" such terrible runnin
nope you have to have everything connected unfortunately
which does make the job a right pig to do and obviously impossible with the tank on
i have an old plastic tank off an outboard but a lawnmower tank will do or make your own as long as it has a tap, only needs to hold about 1/2 a ltr and gives you loads of room to work
but i wouldn't get to far ahead of yourself
one job at a time
make sure the boot's are good, clean the carbs, check all your hoses and the air filter then put it all back together and balance the carbs
balancing the carbs can make 1 hell of a difference but make sure everything else is good first or you'll be going round in circles forever
