Ok need a little bit of help, i bought a vfr400 that had these forks on it, the sliders are cbr400 and had cbr400 sliding calipers on them, but im unsure if its a vfr fork with with cbr sliders or a full cbr fork?

if it is the full cbr fork its for sale as i want to revert back to the later type cartridge vfr fork and calipers.

Any guidance appreciated.

Measure the length top to bottom, VFR forks are longer (I think).

Why would someone put these on a VFR? Maybe to steal the originals, but before you assume these are inferior damper rod forks, have a look inside - they may be cartridge forks from an R model NC29.

Wozza,

im asking the same question as to why they have been swapped, but like you im guessing that it was to rob the vfr forks off it for whatever reason.

Anyway yeah i'll get them in bits at the weekend and see whats what, but im not wanting to swap them because they are inferior forks its because of the calipers, and the inability to fit four pot calipers to cbr sliders. Or can you get brackets to fit better calipers to cbr fork legs??

I thought cbr owners tended to swap the sliders for vfr sliders or vtr1000 sliders to allow them to fit four por piston calipers??

Im hoping the forks turn out to be cartridge forks and then all i need is some vfr sliders but if not i'll be on the look out for some late type vfr forks, GF has some i just need to get some cash together.

Been a bit busy but had an hour tonight so got the forks in bits and this is what i found, early type non carteidge forks.

but on closer inspection ithe damper rods only have one hole and not the 3 as shown in the haynes manual??

why would this be done?? does it make the forks stiffer?

I think the internals are Early type VFR400, is there any diference between these and the CBR400 non cartridge internals??

I have measured the spring at 300mm the spacer under the fork cap at 70mm with a 5mm washer between the two, any help identifying these internals would be great.

I have organised to buy some late type cartridge vfr forks so i think these will be going up for sale along with a 2 right hand cbr400 gold brake calipers, the left one is knackered and i managed to buy another right one off ebay the other week rather than a left as, well, i guess im a bit of a numpty haha!!

Cheers Kurt
