Neutral light and clock back light bulbs not working

Post by Bodhi »

Hey, so had been having battery problems over the past week but have bought a charger and that seems to have sorted it out, but the neutral light and also the clock back lights have stopped working. I took the clocks off and checked all the bulbs but they're all fine, so just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of what else I could check to try and resolve this problem.

Thanks in advance folks

Charging the battery will just mask your problems. Check the charging system's health.

If the battery has run out once, then it is already dying. You are only postponing the inevitable by keep charging it, and it will let you down.

Fuses all fine.

Could the charging system be responsible for the neutral & clock back lights?

If the bike is overcharging, those small bulbs are very sensitive to it and will be the first things to give out.

Worth checking your regulator if your having battery problems. I had all sorts of electical problems with mine and traced it back to a faulty regulator in the end... all good now.

How do I go about checking if it's the reg/rec? I only had a new one fitted less than a year ago so I'd really hope I don't need a new one again.

well the saga continues. Bike started fine yesterday morning for coming into work having not been on the bike for a week and a half, but with it being in the charger all that time. When I came out of work yesterday to go home it just about started, but I could hear that it seemed like the battery was low, anyhow it started and it was going fine for most of the way home, until I was at a set of lights turning right and had my indicator going, then all of a sudden the indicator lights dimmed and the bike died. Had to quicky push the bike through the junction when I could and was just about able to jump start it and get myself home.

Does anyone know if this sounds more like a Reg/Rec issue than a battery issue, or is it more than likely that it could be both?

Really need to get the bike up and running properly again as I can't bear using public transport for getting to work, it sucks!

I bought a second hand reg/rec from a scrapyard the dealer told me it was off a cbr never had any more problems .
If it is your reg/rec remember it could have damaged the battery so what I would do is to replace both reg/rec and battery together.
Bear in mind that problems associated with the reg/rec usually only surface when the charge going through them heats the unit up they can seem to be ok when cold.
have you checked all the connections for the slightest signs of corrosion.
