nc29 running problem

Post by sparkie1989 » Fri Jun 24, 2011 6:27 pm

hi im new to this site so i dont know if this is in the right section.

i took my bike for a ride today everything was fine the bike was running fine started with no problems. then the bike just started missing and then just cut out and took a while for it to start again i was riding on a country lane when this happened and must have been riding for bout 30 to 45 mins and was doing about 50'60 mph when it happened. when i finally got it started again i tried to get back home as quickly as possible i done about a mile then it happened again. i finally got it started again with a jump start because the battery died trying to start it i then managed to get the bike home with no problems but i was just taking my time doing 30mph so the prblems seems to be at higher speed or so it seems if theres anyone whos had similar problems help would be appreciated any help would be appreciated thank you

nc29 running problem

Could be the rectifier on it's way out , symptoms you have there point to something similar that happened to mine and it turned out to be the generator was knackered , so the bike was running off battery which was getting sucked dry of voltage and cutting it out when I was riding , the higher the revs the quicker the drain .

You can usually smell if the rectifier is on it way as it smells of burning.. It often starts to melt around the plug.
Could be carbs or dodgy petrol too

problem doesnt seem to be the rectifier as ive now changed it and the same things happened again i went for a ride done about 40 miles and didnt have any problems next day decided to go for a ride to mallory park which is about 10 miles from my house then same problems started i felt the rectifier when it happened and it was very hot could this be a wiring issue or do they get hot any info would be great

My prev bike - CBR600 did a simliar thing.

It kept making as though it was about to cut out at low revs, when I revved it ( took time to get revving ) it came back to life.

Turned out the negative lead on the battery was loose?

When the revs got above around 5K it produced enough electric power to drive all the electrics - below this it was mis-firing. I think the vibes of the engine made the wire wiggle about and misfire as it would start no problem and tick over fine.
