Carb- refitting, new rubbers, easy? is it f&*K!!!!

I have just spent a bloody frustrating 4 hours trying, very very unsucessfully to refit my carb's, this by the way is the 3rd time of fitting the first was OK the second painful-ish but this time FFS this takes the bloody biscuit.

Whoever said it was easier with new rubbers was a lying git!

New rubbers, red rubber grease, throttle cables fitted, front carbs in, but not pushed home, rears quite a way out, did the prise the rubbers with the screwdriver trick, pushed the carbs forward, levered forward you name it I tried it, and failed, every time the bloody rears went in the fronts popped out! Nearly got it done and bugger me if the front right decided to exit stage front just as I was tightening it.

Now given up until tomorrow

Someone on here must know the techinique, wtf am I doing wrong?

Bloody frustrated and pissed off now, so I am going to grab a beer or 12!

i fund the easiest way is slap on the grease, line the front up then to straddle the bike put the palms of your hands on top of the carbs and lift my weight up on my hands. With all my body weight on they just popped right on.

i used the technique described and its still a c-nt of a job to get them on but got there eventually i used a bit of wood wedged under the frame at the headstock where the tank rubber goes and used it to keep some pressure on the carb tops whilst i got the rear rubbers sorted took me hours also and gubbed myself with the wood when it slipped once ouch.. or get a fat lass to sit on them providing shes not so fat that her arse obscures the carbs whilst you tighten the clips ... enjoy your beer and get back in there tommorow

Cheers for the replies, I'd best find a fat chick then, and as for the bloody clips, the top ones seen keen to dislodge themselves, it is a c-nt of a job inedeed. Perhaps its easier with a hangover

It is a bit of a bitch refitting the carbs. It shouldn't be 4 hours hard though!

i know you have already got the new rubbers.. but i have heard that rvf rubbers are easier and can also be used on the NC30... im sure someone will correct me if i am wrong though...

You've already refitted them twice, successfully, so ask yourself: what am I doing differently, this time round...?

^This, i think me or someone else advised him to get RVF rubbers in another post.

All this being said tho the last time i refitted my carbs i had the same problem as he's having which i thought was very odd as upto then the carbs have virtually dropped in. I just loosened the lower rubber clamps aswell which made it easier (im sure i posted this before aswell) yet not as easy as it should be.

You did mention that before DM, and previously with old rubbers the carbs fitted OK

However its now day 2! and an additional "surprise" when I lever the rear rubbers the bloody clips ride up off the rubbers

FFS these are new rubbers, OK they're old clips, but is shouldn't be THIS difficult should it?

I have now got to the giving up stage, the cat's been kicked enough!

have you tried warming the rubbers up in some near boiling water to soften them?
