Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I used the zip ties and compressed air to force them out and after a bit of faffing they did all come out! Valve clearances are now done, calipers stripped ready to be blasted and brought back to gold, all I have to do is sort my electrical charging gremlin and she will be sorted.
Mods is there any way that these sorts of threads can be archived in a section with other guides, as lots of similar questions keep cropping up? Like what has been done with the valve clearance and carb re-jetting guide etc. Things like fitting exhaust systems, removing snapped or stubborn exhaust studs, re-conditioning or cleaning out rads etc, all the common things that we do and struggle with!!

I leave the caliper connected to the master cylinder, remove the pads and then use one of these
to pump each piston out in turn a couple of times. You can then remove the block and carefully pump the lever until all pistons are out about the same making them easy to pull out without splitting the caliper.
