Nc30 no spark

Post by Rudi46 »

Hi Guys

So the problem is no spark. It all happened when my dad drove the bike and the battery was dead,we had to push start the bike. Drove it for a km and then the lights popped and the bike when dead. So the system overcharged because of the battery or something. So that's the story.

After that checked all the wires. got a new ICU and Coils and Pickups and Battery and the charging thing.
But the bike still refuses to start.

Checked all the fuses. Also checked that the ICU got power and the coils + also when the kill switch is off.

Also checked that the pickups got earth going to them from the ICU. And thy test ok.

Tested all the wiring from and to the ICU. That's the wires going to the coil, pickups,Positive from kill switch and negative. The wire going to the rev counter is also ok ant the one that goes to the rev limiter.

O and the lights and everything else seem to work.

So any Ideas that could work? I have tried everything I know and there is still no spark.

So please guys help me out

Have you wired the new coils up correctly? There are colours on the wiring connectors that need to match the coil connections. Have you tested the replacement coils to see if they work?

Either that or part of your wiring loom has melted.

Wired the coils up correctly and tested them. I tested all the wires going and from the icu.
And checked most of them from stripping open the wiring loom.

When turning the motor over, i don't get a negative signal from the icu to the coil wire(Yellow and Blue) to spark. But the black and white wire on the coil is getting positive from the kill switch. Does the wires that go to the rev counter and rev limiter affect anything with the spark, should there be any power coming or going from them, any other wires that I should also check?

Thanx for the input.

If the electrics over-charged your regulator is broken.. this is a common problem.

The altenator throws out 50+ volts but the regulator drops this down to aroudn 14 to charge the battery and run the bike.. if the reg-dies more of the 50v goes through.

So you've possibily damaged everything electrical on the bike.

The coils can be wired up either way around so I wouldn't worry too much about them at the moment (having the 'correct' polarity is supposed to give a marginally better spark but it wont' affect running.)

If your not getting a spark at all.

1. Is the new TCI box verified working? (do you have a working biek you can plug it into to test)
2. Have you fixed your original electrical problem? Battery is likely toast, even if you can get it to charge, check the reg/rec and generator.
3. The TCI needs to get a signal from the pickups so check this wiring is ok and you have good connection.

Make sure you use a known good battery when testing as often you get a battery that will turn over a bike but provide no spark.

1. Is the new TCI box verified working? (do you have a working biek you can plug it into to test) Got the TCI of ebay. Trying to get a bike to test on
2. Have you fixed your original electrical problem? Battery is likely toast, even if you can get it to charge, check the reg/rec and generator.Replaced the reg/rec and battery
3. The TCI needs to get a signal from the pickups so check this wiring is ok and you have good connection. Checked the 4 wires going and coming from the pickups and they test and look ok
Will have a look 2nite again and see if I can find a dead wire or something. Thats the only thing I can still think of.
Make sure you use a known good battery when testing as often you get a battery that will turn over a bike but provide no spark.
Will check another battery also.
Thanx for the input. The bike has been standing for a year almost. Hope I can get it running again.

And it lives. Found the prob. The lugs in the plugs that connect the ICU and Coils and picups was to loos to make contact. Happy but the one carb float bucket was leaking petrol. So stripped the carbs ad fixxed the leak. Now it wont start. Will check 2morrow.

So Tahnx for all the help.
