wiring rear brake pressure switch

Post by STYLER »

Got a rear brake pressure switch from DSS and dont know if the two black wires can go in either part of the 2 pin block connector on the loom or is there any way of knowing which is the right one to match with the green/brown and black/brown loom wires. The pressure switch wires also look half the width??

it shouldnt matter - all the switch does is make contact between the two wires when its pressed

Brilliant. I was looking to do the exact same thing. Do those spade connections on the pressure switch just slide into the block you cut off the standard line?

Doubt they plug straight in as the stock brake switch has a black connector that you'll have to butcher or use to make some connectors to fit.
How hard can it be?

Correct, the polarity won't matter, it's just an on/off switch.

However I would be slightly concerned with the gauge of that wire. Am I being dense or doesn't that wire carry 42w / 12v = about 3.5A through it when activated? It looks a bit skinny for that, IMHO.

You can remove the plastic block from the old switch and if you are lucky the new female latched spades are the same size, and so you can fit it all nice and tidy. Just poke around in the old block with a small sharp tool (darning needle works) until you retract the old latch, then pull.
