End can baffle repair
Hi all,
I have just got a carbon kevlar end can with a pipe, and the baffle is fecked. the can is pop rivited together. Is it worth trying to fix this myself or should i just send it to an exhaust manufacturer?
Also would it just be worth scrapping it and getting a new can cos repair would be costly?
Not sure on the make but the system is a yamamoto.

Im in the middle of doing mine as my baffles looked now.
Easy enough to drill out the head of the rivets and knock them out, Ive got baffles slightly shorter than the can and then replacing the packing so that they are held in place by the packing itself.

The packing is the expanding stuff as figured it would hold the baffle in place better

Most 'performance' exhaust cans are a straight-through tube, perforated for most of its length, wrapped in muffller material, then encased in the outer can (in your case, carbon) and capped off with alloy ends riveted on. A mechanical baffle tube would be fitted inside the perforated tube.skinnydog0_0 wrote:Hi all,

It's not that difficult to try and fix, especially if it's riveted together. If you have the tools you need, it doesn't take too long either, and it's way cheaper than replacing it.
I fixed my carbon can after I found it had a hole bashed in it! The previous owner had covered it with an ally sleeve that looked crap... I drilled the rivets out and pulled the can apart, cut the carbon sleeve down by 10" to remove the damage, shortened the perforated tube to fit and packed the can with fibreglass insulation from an immersion heater jacket...

Pop the caps back on, rivet the thing together, job done.

Thanks for the replys, yer I have taken it apart- drilled the pop rivets and got the end caps off. Very simple really.
It was pretty much the same as 2stroke cans i have done in the past. I have a new baffle tube on order, as the one that was fitted had a restriction over half of it's length, where as my micron race can is straight through. I cant believe how light this yamamoto system is, the whole thing is probably less than 2kg
I am a bit gutted i wont be able to get out and test this till mid August, but will be well worth the wait i am sure
