Exhaust fitting - advice please

I have a cut rear section and can to fit, with link pipe already attached to the can, the idea being to see how it sounds instead of the original honda system. Hopefully noisier

However on a dummy run of fitting can to cut end it was a bit tight to say the least, I have been advised to clean it all up, lube it and that brute force is a useful tool.

So the question is, which order?

Connect cut pipes to header and collector and then fit end can, or try to fit can to pipes and then fit to bike?

I'd imagine fit pipes first would be the best bet, but how much abuse of brute force, ignorance and the rubber mallet treatment will they stand?

Also I assume copper slip would be an acceptable lube?

At this point someone is bound to suggest KY .....

I fit the link pipe to collector, then the can to the link pipe. Twist the pipe as you push the pipes together, they go more easily. You shouldn't have to use brute force, just a firm hand!

A smear of copper grease can't hurt on the joins, and make sure you slide the clamps over the tube first.
If you forget, and put it all together without clamps, you will swear, I promise.

I'm swearing already trying to get the downpipe bolts undone! I guess as they have been untouched and corroding away nicely for the last 21 years it was never going to be easy!

WD 40, 3 in 1 penetrant spray, overnight, not a chance! Plus bloody odd sized inaccesible bolts, what a right pain.

Perhaps cutting the original can off wasn't such a bad idea after all.............
