Swing arm question

Post by royster81 »

Can the swingarm from the later cb's be fitted the the earlier cb's as I think they look better and how readily available are parts ?

Swingarms are relatively easy to swap. I put the arm from an nc29 in my nc27, for example. Frame rail width is dictated by crankcase width, so it should be easy enough, even if you have to make some new spacers or use different bearings. Twin shock arms are generally easy enough, too as you don't have to worry about linkages and so on.

Can you show a picture of what you mean? I don't see much difference myself.

The red one is an nc31, the blue one is an nc42, the 2009> model. The nc39 sits in between those two models, but I am not certain of the years.

I still think they will be cross-compatible, but you'd have to offer it up to be sure.

You'll be waiting a while to see cheap parts off an '09 CB400, particularly because very very few made it to the UK, not like the 90's glut of 400's. The nc39 is more likely, the arm looks like what you're after. Again though, not as many of those made it here as nc31's.

Tricky finding information in English...

There are various engine changes and bodywork changes. The later bikes got VTEC then more recently Fi. The bodywork has changed a few times, and there's a half-faired one more recently. Someone on here must know more, but I'm afraid it's not me.

this from Wiki:

CB 400 Version R in 1995
CB 400 Version S in 1996

CB 400 Super Four - 50th Anniversarry Edition in 1998
CB 400 Super Four / Super Bol D'Or NC39 started in 1999
CB 400 Super Four Vtec Spec I in 1999

CB 400 Super Four / Super Bol D'or NC42 (Vtec Spec III) started in 2007
