NC30 track bike not been used in 8-10yrs, where to start?

Yeah got the vin on the headstock its NC30 - 1106411, so its a 92 import, put this up in a nother post in the hello section! and was told that was right.

Was going to ask if i'd need a new rear hub bearing but youve cleared that up for me, cheers, and yeah good point i'll check the water pump too.

Hmmm lapping valves, never done this before, wasnt going to take the head off unless the valve clearances where out, sounds like i best had and have a look at them.

I don't know the bike chum, I just saw it on ebay and noticed that there were only a few bids on it. I was going to bid on it myself purely for the exhaust but it was the other end of the country to me so not really doable. Such a bargain, with that exhaust it makes you wonder what's been done to the engine. If you see Tony Scott written on it anywhere jump for joy as you've hit the jackpot

You don't need to get the head off to see if the valves are leaking :D

I'd be inclined to say unless it was stored somewhere damp with a lot of visible corrision i'd just do everything else and not bother taking the head-off unless you need too.

Once you've got it all up and running, if it's not smoking like a train, mixing the oil or water (or using a lot of each) then get it to a local dyno and see how much power it's making.

If it's really low then theres a problem somewhere if not just ride it :D

Morning,

Bit of progress at the weekend, tho with a mates wedding on sat and then the hangover on sunday i was fairly steady progress.

Stripped all the panels off the bike and the tank off, was looking forward to seing what was under there really, a airbox or not, carbon fibre tray, hrs carb try mod??? erm well no, just a standard bike, with the toolkit still zip tied to the rear subframe!

Anyway after a bit of a think i dicided tht this was a good thing, i'd only end up buggering up a nice bike, so standard suits my fine.

Stripped and got the carbs of to find what i think are ported in lets, but im prepared to be told these are standard.



So stuffed a rag in all the inlets then got the compressor out to blow away all the crap and dust, to find my dads left the attachment at work for it so i couldnt. so i moved onto dismanteling the carbs, all seemed to be in the right place tho pretty gunked up, i cant get the pilot jet clear!! any tips, hints, soaked it in petrol so i'll see if i have any better luck tonight.

Also how do i know what needle i have in the carb? it has nothing printed on it, just a circlip and one washer??

Got the carbs with me this week (work away from home) so i'll try to get one cleaned each night, got 4 toothbrushes with me ready haha.

Hard to tell from those pics but id have a punt at saying thats been ported, its doesnt look as extreme as the porting on mine but looks like something has been done.

Needles with a circlip suggest there not standard, make a list of what jets etc are fitted to each set of front and rear carbs and we can go from there.

Is the airbox, snorkle and flaps all standard then?

yeah all the airbox etc are standard, like i say the bike looks standard and still has the toolkit attached to it!

the carbs seem standard, i started at carb 2 (Front left) main 122.5? 4 holes in emulsion tube standard pilot, all bagged up on its own and labeled along with the float bowl.

Just need to get the pilot clear, and give it a good scrub, if not i may need a ultrasonic cleaner?

Just re read cammos carb post uk standard for front is 120 and 122 for the rear?

Do they make 122.5 jets, im 100% sure it has a .5 on it but will double check tonight!!

Yes 0.5mm jets are available. New pilot jets are available if needed

yeah thinking it may be a case of new pilots, but if i cant get them unblocked, chances are that i wont be able to clear all the passage ways in the carb itself, i'll do my best then see how it runs, then if needs be find someone to ultrasonic clean it.

Sounds like it's been jetted at some stage, and as DM said is using aftermarket needles.
