Substitute NC30 shocks...

Post by DoktorMandrake »

What shocks can you add to an NC30 with minimal or no mods at all? I know certain CBR shocks fit in the NC29 but whether you have to change the shock mount/dogs I do not know.

My NC30 shock is fucked so am looking at alternatives. Can't afford an aftermarket one and think I could probably get a shock from a newer different model bike cheaper than paying MCT or someone to sort out a second hand NC30 shock... so any ideas? What bike shocks fits either directly or with a bit of modification and how does it alter handling from the standard NC30 set up?

Thanks peeps!!

Nothing really fits in with no mods.

I think a stock k-series gixxer shock would be the cheapest and easiest replacement option, the later the model the better. There are some mods needed to the undertray and battery position as the res will hit the standard battery. Maybe others who have done this mod can reply with specifics. SP1/2 and 600rr shocks might also fit but will suffer teh same problem with the res location.

Aprilia rs250 shocks go in quite easily, but you'll need to change the spring to something suitable. You can get away with using the nc30 spring on the rs shock, but not ideal. valving also needs ideally upgrading ideally, so can end up costing a fair bit.

Ive fitted a 03-04 CBR600RR rear shock - pretty straight forward if you're handy but the 05-06 shock is better as the res is shorter, a 2CO R6 rear shock is better than the CBR item but im not sure what, if any, mods will be needed for it, i know it fits though - but then again, you can make anything fit.
If i were you, i'd get a standard unit refreshed for £100, as you'll spend £100+ buying & fitting something else & it'll also be used & most prob need a refresh by now unless you manage to get a pretty new 1.
The 2CO R6 shock goes right up to 2009 as far as i know.

I was lucky, the shock i got came from a 3000 mile bike.
