NC30 Wont start.. tips?
Hi People,
Bought an Nc30 it had been running, but is not currently, ive tried a fe things and still no life - got some ideas but would like to run it by incase im missing something simple!
Fresh fuel is now in the bike, the carbs have been off and both top and bottom cleaned and decocked, there was sign of old contaminated fuel and some jets blocked or partially. Put back together and still nothing.
Seem to be getting a spark, When firing over it turns and occasionally sounds like it might be closer but then returns. Fuel seem to be getting into the carbs ok, fuel tap checked etc.
Frustrating as its holding me back!
An help guys would be appreciated!

Re: NC30 Wont start.. tips?
Are you getting fuel into the cylinders? ie. take a plug out after a few cranks and if its wet, you are. How much is the idle screw holding the butterflys open? Try open the throttle slightly when cranking.
Check all the plugs for spark, it prob wont start even if one isnt firing.
Check choke is operating and returning to off when released, if its sticking there'l be too much fuel and it'l flood. The plugs need to be dry or they wont spark.

DONT DO THIS!

NC30's hate Throttle on the start, a Flooded spark plug will die VERY quick and there not cheap to replace,
full Choke NO THROTTLE
make sure youve checked you electrical safety circuit/system
Kill Switch
Neutral,
Clutch Switch,
Diode,
then
Battery Charge Level,
check each plug is firing by shortling the plug to earth and see if the spark is jumping the gap,
check plug gap clearance, i think its about 0.70mm
also make sure you got the right plugs, some people have bought the ER10EH plugs as they start terribly,
only really designed to be used for engines under high temprature speeds etc.
there a few other things to check, but most importantly NC30s hate being flooded and destroy those LITTLE spark plugs easily when pissed about with when trying to start, and opening the throttle.

Re: NC30 Wont start.. tips?
Cheers for the replies - Im concerned over the spark as on one of the front plus was wet and that is the one im not seeming to get a spark from...... as easy as a plug or could it be coils or even ECU?
Really appreciate the advice!

Re: NC30 Wont start.. tips?
The NC30 fires a Wasted Spark, so if one plug is firing the the other isnt then it will be the plug thats faulty, the CDI only controls front sparks rear sparks simple as that really.
other than that id also check the carbs, that the float heights are right etc, any blockages will also starve an individual cylinder to start, having said that the NC30 will run on 3 cylinders, not comfortable, but it makes an unmistakeable wierd noise,

If you get it running on 3 then swap the running plugs about and get the dodgy one in a previous working cylinder. you may get away with it and it might want to work in a hotter and drier setup.
If ot, as I said, new plugs..

Re: NC30 Wont start.. tips?
Right I'm going to admit defeat, I hope it's just the plugs! After cleaning them it's the closest it's been to starting, I thought it was going to come to life but the seems flooded again.
Sidestand has to be up yer? And clutch in?
There is spark on the plus but a couple seem to be firing sideways? Completely new to the vfr so I'm not aware how awkward they are.
Best place to go for plugs cheAp and fast?
So frustrating, I can't explain!
Thanks for the help!

Graeme France (on here as GF racing) has supplied very good priced plugs to me and others before.

Re: NC30 Wont start.. tips?
Side stand doesnt have to be up to start
I bought a set of 4 sparks online, roughly 40-45 incl postage
Their all similarly priced, depends if you order from UK based website or not!
Single plugs can be 10-15 but ofc theirs postage.
