Re: updated project bike...
i wasnt having a pop at you ,what i was saying is from MY experience i cant see the need for one on the roads over here in blighty on a 29.i am not trying to say i dont like the bike, just picking up on a point SPECIFIC to dampers and why i think they are SOMETIMES a bit over used.waza's cbr6 engined 29 doesnt need one which shows how good the chassis is(plus his sussies are sorted mind)
as for the rest of the bike, its a nicely blinged up 29 which i have no doubt draws a big crowd over there.yes you will be one of the first to fit certain types of accessories and i am glad to see people doing it to make their bike stand out, life would be boring otherwise.
anything can and is made to fit/work with a bit of money, knowledge and craftsmenship so fair play for that, next time tho' try not to take offence if its not aimed at you,ok.

thats sounds includes me.....firebeast wrote:just wanted to know why you all think you need a damper for this bike?
If the kind of “jumps and rough roads” you had are the same “jumps and rough roads” we had here are the same, probably I would really not need a steering damper.

Re: updated project bike...
fristly, dont take this the wrong way,i am trying to get members who are looking at this to think about if they want to spend their hard earned on something which in my 13 years of riding a fair amount of bikes with some well over double the bhp of a 29,that if they believe a damper is going to allow a bike to ride faster and safer they are wrong.if a bike REALLY needs a damper(zx10r/tl1000s for example),its inherently because its geometry isnt right and makes its really nervous.or because its huge power means its bound to get you into trouble!changing the shock on a tl1000s makes a huge difference (according to a national superstock riding mate)which makes the bike better but it still needs a damper justin case.you have made a really nice bike and fitted very tasty parts and i dont know what your roads are like which i why i am saying about over here.waza's gullarm has over 85 bhp and i gave it a right good ragging a while back on some quiet narrow b roads near me and it was a lively ride but not dangerously nervous to make me want to back off.my old blade engined 23(many years ago when it was together) makes the tl feel calm, mainly due to being a bit oversprung (with its race shock and rc45 forks)since i reduced the weight to 155kg and its weight distribution change.for me, part of the riding experience i gained is by finding limits of yourself and feeling what the bike is capable of which is more easily found on a 400,which is part of the attraction with them.when i jumped off my old zx9 once and rode a nc30 for 20 miles during a run out it was just nailed all the time unlike my ninja which needed a carefull hand on some roads which could have my 9r nearly tapped out occasionally.
the phrase' the tail wags the dog' is relavent to bikes in that if the shock isnt set up right,no amount of playing with the front will make the bike perfect.thats why having had a couple of bikes with race shocks i have seen how much more composed bikes are after setting these up.
if however, some owners have dropped the forks (would need to be a lot mind)through the yokes to speed up the steering i can see possibly a case for one then.sorry for the rant but its just my honest opinion on these little jems.if people want to improve the ride of these bikes the best option is buying a better shock and get the forks sorted to match.

Re: updated project bike...
I'm with FB. Not many bikes I have ridden over the years need a steering damper. I've found my elbows do just fine.
The only bike I have had an outrageous head shake on was an RGV250 and that was on a road well known for it's horrible state. Usually a little head shake is the bike telling me I've got something wrong (usually body position on the bike / weight distribution).
Still a damn tasty bit of bling on your bike though Garyboy.

only lock to lock i had and never want again was after thinking the ohlins i had just fitted to a cbr6fx would allow me to go a bit quicker down a moorland b road but soon found that was wrong having caught the edge of a ditch trying to square the corner and it had control of me for atleast the next 50 yards.the face of the oncoming car driver was better than my own!! and i was bricking it as i tried to regain some control!nearly dropped an egg in me shorts!

ROFLnearly dropped an egg in me shorts!
Nothing to do with a head shake but it reminded me of one rather memorable ride back in NZ.
I'd just stepped up to a CBR900, one of the urban tiger paint jobs (wish i'd kept that bike, it's still me fave of all time), and was chasing some mates hard o one of the local scratchers hills. Cliff one side, rock wall the other.
I'd gone tanking into a right turn way to quick thanks to Mr Brain expecting CBR600 acceleration off the last turn.

The bloke riding behind was very sympathetic "WTF did you do that for?!"
Sorry for hijacking the thread

Hey man, would you know if those grip adapters suit an NC35 too?garyboy_palaboy wrote: 5. the grip adapters (the part where you secure the throttle cable to the throttle grip) are larger than the standard NC29, which makes it a "quick throttle". no need to bend those hand too much for quick accelleration.
