Akrapovic MegaPhone Slip-on (R6) for VFR400 ???

Post by butler46 »

Hi people,

a random Question: i have seen this style and kind of Pipe on lots of different Modern Bikes for example the (06) yamaha R6 Yesterday and love it, found out the name, and found one on ebay etc

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AKRAPOVIC-MEGAPHO ... 499wt_1153

website: http://www.akrapovic.com/motorcycle-exh ... 793b33c1b/

im just wondering would this Slip-on the Vfr400 Exhaust pipes ? id love it on my bike.

does any body know the Diameter and Measurements of the VFR400 end, or even this ?

many thanks Adam :rocks:

hehe  that'd be nice :)
how about with the Stock Baffle with it ? why would it be so loud ? because of the length or what ? just wondering why they don't make any exhausts like this for the Vfr400 etc ?

btw i had a Maggot on my vfr400 before i put my baffled Tyga exhaust back on which was V-loud, but never got pulled etc, this is what it says on the Website:

"The 'slip-on' mount is 2" internal diameter, so is compatible with our existing TYGA NC30/35 pipe and any other system with a 2" (approx. 50mm) external diameter tail pipe."

so i guess your right there :peace:

how big does the AKRA have to be to slip on the end ? i have a COOL GRANDAD who can weld etc so is there any thing that can be made so it could bit fit on ? also would this exhaust effect my Vfrs Engine or Air/fuel ratios n cause me problems ? i dont know the real Science behind Exhausts but obviously they are the shape they are for a reason, and modern bikes are probably designed in a way to go with the Modern exhausts ?

hope i make sense ? i know it might not be every ones Cup of Tea,
but i love the look of this End. just like my old Maggot kind of

thanks Again Adam

Leave it alone.

There is zero silencing on that at all, it's just a trim. Which is fine (loud, but maybe acceptable if you like that sort of thing) on a bike with a catalytic converter under the engine, but will literally make your ears bleed on an nc30, there will be no silencing at all between the engine and atmosphere. You thought your Maggot was loud? Try taking your exhaust can right off, and riding 20 miles. 10p says you'll either get arrested, a headache, or both. If you still think it's a good idea after that, then you're probably beyond help.

Hi, i understand and take your advice, but surely it will be Quieter than the Maggot ? as the maggot was just straight through, where as this one at least has baffles in it, ? how do baffles work ?

Baffles work by reflecting the gas back into the exhaust, giving the exhaust more chance to absorb the sound. That works well enough in a full-length race can, and presumably on this it does something - perhaps there's a mid-silencer? But on your bike it'll do nothing at all, as there is no silencing material to absorb the sound.

Give Dean a call at DTmetallurgy in stoke-on-trent and he can build you a maggot style can any way you like.

There is obviously a reason there aren't many of the mega-phone style cans around for the NC30 - Need we say more?!!
