18" wheel - Tyre choice.

Post by gpz900 »

Hi there,

I'm looking for tyres for my track NC30. It still has the 18" wheel.

I was going for BT090's but I've been told that they no longer make them and I should get BT003rs.
I couldn't see a option for the 18" rear in on the Bridgestone website in the BT003.

Can anyone confirm tell me what my options are for sticky (but not slick) tyres in the standard NC30 sizes?

Many thanks...

Al.

I'm in Australia, btw. :)

Yeah, looks like bridgestone don't make an 18" bt003.

If you're quick you might be able to get hold of some dunlop alpha-10's in 18" rear. These are on par with the bt090's for grip, and successor of the (almighty!) gpr70's. These are discontinued but there still might be some stock available, ask a retailer to check with the dunlop distributor. I've raced on them, they're good.

In the future it may be difficult (or impossible) to get grippy street rubber and slicks in 18" sizes, most tyre manufacturers are dropping the 18 from their range right now.

There's always the option of buying a 17" rvf rear wheel - get them while they're cheap...!

I found 016's stick as well as 090's, but I am slow.

I got new tyres last month and my local mechanic had plenty of 090s and 092s, after another dealer had never even heard of them! Obviously I can't say what the supply is like in Oz but there will be some around.

Remember some people will know them better as Battlax.

Cheers guys,

Ended up with a BT003RS front and a BT090 rear.

Hopefully that's a decent combination.

Bring it.
