chipping/Mapping?

Post by irish_liquor » Mon May 23, 2011 1:50 pm

Hi, i have a spare engine i picked up and the guy i got it from claims its been bored out and that the computer part(CDI maybe not sure on it name) has been mapped.

I was just wondering if this is possible as the bike has carbs. I thought it was only engines with fuel injection that could be mapped.

Its remotely possible that he could map the ignition curve differently. But fuelwise, no. As you rightly say it has carbs. You'll only know practically whether the engine is bored when you see the dyno figures.

I suppose ill just take his word for now and see how it runs. He was just a little chav and i was getting a good price for the bits so i didnt query it at the time.

His other claim was that it did close to 170 on the track. I dont know alot about bikes but it sound alot for a little 400 engine :|

sounds a bit like that weapon who was trying to flog a tatty old 76a recently on ebay claiming a new map and 80bhp and 160mph, however when asked for proof he assumed it was around that "cos it keeps up with his mates gixxer"
take with a pinch of salt

the standard ecu cannot be mapped!!!

If the cdi has been changed for an after market then the standard rev counter won't work.

The only uk 80hp at the wheel gk76a isn't the one your looking at!!! To build the engine alone it will be about £5k and i will never sell it. especially now i have my stroker crank

ha ha i guess hes talking out his backside then, the cdi/ecu that he gave me is just the original, but someone told me when re-mapping car they just get plugged in to a comp and reprogrammed.

I dont know alot about tuning as you can tell, lol

Cheers guys

Are you sure, I don't have one, but I reckon if we take apart the ecu and desolder the right chip we will read the hex dump and change the ignition curve.
