rear caliper snapped HELP!!!!!!

Post by rswspeed1 »

hi, my nc30 had been standing for 2 years without being touched and i decided to get it back on the road, got it running with no problems but when i took it down the road and back i noticed the rear caliper was hanging down, so i took it off and the alloy on the caliper had snapped in the centre, so i bought another caliper but it wont go on its as if the hub has dropped down or the bracket moved up but cannot see anything obvious.
i have nothing to compare it with.
any ideas????
thanks

Hi

I had this exact same thing.

Whats happened is that the eccentric hub has dropped down as you say. Prob like that from when you put it away last.

Managed to make a mess of my caliper and snapped the mounting bracket.

From what i remember you need to get it on a paddock stand and the wheel off. Undo the pinch bolt and you should be able to rotate the hub (as if tightening the chain)

If its as i think it is then it should be self explanatory.. been a while since it happened to me now.

The hub was tightened in the highest position. When i then went out and over a few bumps, the weight of the bike pushed the hub back down, snapping the caliper mount.

Sorry if this is a bit long winded as trying to describe how i saw it from memory (a poor one at that too!)

Let me know how you get on.

If you need a replacement caliper mount, i got mine from Graeme France....

ive had a quick look and i think what has happened is that the chain is rusted and theres a couple of kinks there and is very tight so when i took it down the road it has forced the hub down, so ive just ordered a new chain for 30 quid delivered next day (hopefully) so give me a couple of days and ill let you know how i got on.
druid - will let you know in a couple of days if i need it (i hope not) thanks
