Okay lads, i've decided i'm not going to get this bike! I mean i'm a brand new rider (apart from a 125) and i cant be dealing with the worry that it might fall to pieces every time I go near it .

I've given him £100 deposit so armed with this information I can tell him i've clearly been miss sold and demand my money back right ?

Guys, I cant thank you all enough for all of this!

He looked about 19/20 and when i offered him £1200 he didnt put up much of a fight (which got me thinking a bit considering its on for £1649)
When i asked him about anything wrong with it he didnt mention anything like this, only that the wheel bearing needs changing and that there was a problem with turning the high beam off.
so i'll go round with all of this information and ask for an explanation and most probably will end up in me walking away with my wallet a bit thicker.

oh btw i do have a receipt for the deposit.

If it is the rear bearing that needs replacing then they are not cheap..(compared to a front one anyways)

Id be honest with him, you've had some advice and this bike is not actually what you thought it was going to be.

1: Non standard fairings
2: Obviously crashed (hence the gouge, the new can and plastics)
3: wrong forks - if them calipers say NISSIN on the outsideof them they are not right..so, were the original forks broken in the crash?
4: that swingarm has taken a good smack from the crash it has had - and if it has crashed badly enough to screw the forks and scratch it that bad..then the engine mounts need checking out too.
5: No high beam - if I recall then this is the swtichgear that has failed - easy enough to sort, but he obviously does not know this.
6: check all servicing - have the valve clearances been done (if he says yes, ask him how easy it was ;) )

The crack is that it is not quite the standard NC30 you needed to buy. It has been crashed, quite hard by the look of it.

I can see that he might have spent that deposit on clearasil and wank mags...so you might be taking some bargaing.

1249 is what you provisionaly agreed and this is for a bike that is supposed to be sound.

This is a bit rough. If you can knock him down to a grand, then I'd get it.

Where is it anyways? Possible that someone can come and have a look over it with you, but if you are worried enough to find this forum, ask the questions then I guess your gut feeling says walk away.

Just my 2p;
Exactly what has the guy lied about that leads you to think that it's not as described &that you are entitled to your money back....
he mentions that it's 'stunning' a couple of times, the tyres are ok, has a new stainless exhaust & starts as it should. He didn't say that it was original etc so don't assume it is!

Surely you as a prospective buyer you should check that the bike is what you want (or take someone along that knows bikes).

Sure if you are not 100% sure about it try & get your money back or bid him down a bit more - I'd use info or purely wrong stuff (potentially dangerous) like the forks/brakes being incorrect rather than it's not an original fairing.
I hope you succeed & get a decent result
.
Remember that these bikes are 20 +/- years old, so many are shagged or well on their way to being so, many have been dropped to varying degrees but most will need work/bits & bobs doing to keep them nice. The really nice ones will be well above the £1200 that you offered for this one.

Good luck ;)

I don't think this bike is quite the hound everyone thinks. I'dbuy it, and at over 20 years old it's bound to want something doing.
How hard can it be?

Agreed. Your not getting completely ripped off. Only a little bit.
