NC30 Airbox.

Post by lazyboydobby »

I have been reading some of the post and it is not benifical to replace the standard air filter with a k&n etc.
I opened the airbox to check the condition of my filter. The filter itself was fine but i do have a question.

The intake to the airbox is at the front there is a scoop which faces downwards. there are several holes cut in the underneath of the airbox where the scoop goes too. i am presuming that this is a course filter for the main filter. It looks alit bodged to me. Is this correct???

Thanks James

the lower tray should be all one piece and butt up to the headstock. The snorkel breathes in above this.

Sounds bodged to me..

This is the same as my bike, the previous owner had decided to drill loads of holes in it to aid air flow into the air box.

I don't know to be honest, the best advice I suppose is to have it dyno'd if you are running an aftermarket system and see if it's running correctly, there is an obvious reason it's been drilled, to allow more air through induction but I don't know what state me fuel is in as I am too lazy to check.

Drilling the holes is supposed to help get fresh cold air into the airbox but I have never got it to work well as the bike just leans out as your speed picks up. Maybe it's only supposed to be small holes or very rich jetting but I gave up and went back to the closed Airbox.

im also considering removing the front peice of plastic of mine to try as im still finding my bike rich, even with the K&N etc, i do have an oval hole in my base plate, which helped but its not helping enough, i need to get me another base plate just in case it makes it worse.

Or you could just go the other way Rick and lean it off that way you might fix your running fault :? I'll get my coat.
