new nc24 buyer.. what to look out for?

hi all going to look at a 1987 nc24 in rothmans colours over the weekend, not too clued up on the nc24's so can anybody help? what should i be looking for when looking to buy? Heres the link to the bike

I have a NC24, in a tatty state which cost me 350 sovs, but i will add that it also came with 3/4 of another one, it has shite plastics which all need repairing, no mirrors, dent in the tank, screen is all crazed and cracked.
I knew nothing about NC24/30 at all, Just wanted a smallish cc bike to lark about with, as more of a grocery getter than a hard core bike, a bit of fun
I never realised it was a grey import, there are no manuals, spares are a pain although you can still get some,
the nc 30 appears the same, but are completely different and are not interchangable as such, but in saying that you will get plenty of help and information on this forum,
I f I knew what I know now, when I first looked at the bike, would i have brought it, probably not, and at the risk of some forum members telepathically bending my fingers back in a carpark and pulling out my eye lashes, I would say try and get the NC30, however I do like my 24 although I sometimes I just look at it and just see grief, and then other times I only have to start it and a blast is on the cards, like today.

All the bike needs to finish is a battery

This probably means the charging system is knackered, kind of a common fault but depending if it is this can cost about 150.00 to restore.

The NC24 has a good engine but is older technology, the suspension, frame and tyres are not upto modern day standard by a long shot, its a decent bike and ok for short blasts on, spares can be pricey and they can be a bit of a pain to work on.

An NC30 will give better brakes, tyres, and suspension and hold its value much more than the 24.

Upto you what you want to buy, 600 for that seems ok as its had a full rebuild, the exhaust is wrong (nc21 as nc24 parts are not available) but its not the end of the world.

It's high exit, just got an ART can on.

The seller says they have put an NC21 collectorbox on there in the listing. these have a low exit pipe as there designed for the low-level NC21 can.

They have bodged an ART can on this with some dodgy link pipe.

A standard NC24 link pipe wont fit the collector without modification and an NC21 link pipe will be too low, hence the problem they have.



You can see the long protrusion on the NC21 colletorbox.

The NC24 colletorbox is diferent



The NC21 has a lower level exhaust that has a smaller link pipe to the collector



The NC24 is higher and has a longer link pipe

hi all thanks for that help its highly appreciated! i currently have an rvf well did i unfortunately came of it on Thursday night due to lifting the bike because there was a rabbit in the road, i ended up going through a metal cow fence! The bike is a complete mess and needs a whole new front end. This dosnt bother me as i could repair it myself its just im away to the TT on the first of June and need something to get me over there! I am looking for a nc30 really but as this came up for sale in the same town i thought id go and have a look

cheap hack, providing it isnt falling apart buy it.

Somebody got one recently for 150 quid, i think it was 'stewie' and its in really decent condition!

And rabbits.. behave, hold the handlebars tight and ride over it!
