Post by montsta56 »

Hi Guys
Just pulling apart some 35 carb's i have lying around an was wondering if anyone know's what the VA39 needles are an how they compare to the j51a/b needles in regard to richer leaner etc?? The va39 needles are adjustable an also have slots at the base of the needle (ie the pointy end???) also one set of slides have 2 holes in the base the other set just 1?? Any help would be great
Cheers

They sound like Kenso Bakudan aftermarket needles. More info on their website:

I gave a set away because I couldn't be arsed trying to tune the bike with them - too many unknowns for me!

There's been some discussion about these needles (and jets) before, try searching for 'bakudan'.

I have no idea how they compare with standard needles, I'm sure they can be adjusted to to run properly, but I think the needles were intended to be run with their jets also.

Weird needles those are. Have you tried them with those carbs?

I'd like to know how well they run / how they are to set-up as everybody seems to just bin them :peace:

No i dont have a range of there jets so i there kind of pointless if you've got to use there mains with these needles. Shame would have like to have a play with them.

Bakudan do funky main jets that a tri drilled instead of the standard single hole

Shame the main jets arn't there though, the Stage 2 kit for the RVF is 176gbp so not cheap by any means.

I tried and failed to get some of the Bakudan needles and jets working with my carbs too.. Just erratic fuelling and really poor running. Just did not work whatever I did.

V4s are touchy enough little bastards as it stands using std parts, let alone other manufacturers ;)
