Which Rectifier

Hi
My rectifier has gone on my bike but doesnt look like a standard nc30 one. the wiring has obviously been modified to suit as there is no conector block on the harness, just spade terminals also the rectifier seems bigger than the ones i have seen on ebay. can anyone identify this rectifier or am i wrong and it would be a straight swap for an nc30 one ?

looks a bit like the replacements you can buy on ebay, they look to use spade connectors. the popular option is the r6 rec again using spade connectors. i have just replaced mine with a 600 fazer rectifier, seems to be doing the business with no issues. and was cheaper on ebay.

been playing with a faulty sv 650 today and have just put a cbr 1000 rectifier on that and has done the job perfectly - however it had the same number wires as the vfr does so guess i could have used that as well.

How many wires are going into the box? I have had problems with my bike not charging and found that mine had spade terminals fitted but they were all corroded. I found a new plug and wires on eBay , from hong kong but fingers crossed should be ok

There are 3 wires going in from generator and 2 wires going out to battery.
Its deffinatly the reg though, i have tested the output terminals and there is no voltage there

that looks likes a CBR 125 reg/rec

Yes looks the same do you think it would work on a nc30 ? just a bit concerned about different voltage and current raitings, wouldnt want to blow the resistors or diodes. Correct me if im wrong.

They all put out roughly the same from the gennys, circa 3-400 watt.

Get an R6 reg-rec (2003-2005) year if you can, nothing later than 2006 though else it wont fit, you need a 5 pin one.

There huge in comparission and you can pick them up dirt cheap

Me and cammo fit them to all our bikes.

Remember though, always do a full electrical test of the bike before and after replacing reg/rec.

The biggest cause of original reg-rec failure is heat buildup caused by an old battery. As the battery ages it can no longer take a good charge, the reg-rec has to burn this charge off as heat, and the reg-rec cooks.

I always replace my batterys every 3-4 years and keep them charged up on an optimate between usage. Dying / Dead old abused batteries hurt the charging system

Make sure the genny resistance test if ok and it is giving out the correct voltage, make sure the reg/rec is doing the same, if your unsure of the battery age or the reg/rec has been over-charging it, ditch it and start with a new one, fully charge it initially according to the mfgs instructions and make sure you keep it charged and you wont have any problems :)

I already ordered one of an nc35 but think i might get a spare so ill look at getting an R6 one.
Just one more thing though, which way round is the polarity on the output of the rectifier ?
Because i dont have a plug, only spade terminals i dont want to get it the wrong way round so if im looking at the rectifier as it is mounted on the subframe is the + on the left or right ?

Never mind i found a way of testing it with a multimeter, the + is on the left as you look at it
