I was originally going to go with Motec. But, the Fuel Injection guy I was working with said the Pectel was a better system with more ajustability and configurability. It also had more channels for data acquisition. But, what he didn't tell us is it was so complex and needed to pay him thousands to set it up. Now, we wish we had gone with something different, but we're fully invested in it. So, we can't turn back now. If I had it to do again, I would look deeper into sometghing else.
Why such a flat spot on your dyno curve?
Have you been able to send those carb boots ofr the FCRs? We're just waiting for those to measure so we can make new ones to get our flatslides working better. We're stuck without them.

with the boots i make a mistake, the parcel comes back. Yesterday i talked to Gerd and he promised me that he will finish 3 set of rads next week, then i will sent the rads and boots.
With brake discs i understand.

The flat spot in dyno curve must be removed. It was only an hour. Fist we must find the fuel and ignition setup.
And i have only a single lambda for the back cylinder. Next day i want to put a second lamba for the front cylinder. So we can make a different fueling map for front and rear.

I wondered if the reason was that Michael had addressed it with either a 1 in the German style, which got read as a "7" and so the packet didn't get delivered. I had that once. Fantastic work Mike(s)! Inspiring to read about the development of both engine and chassis components. I am currently redesigning the rear exhaust system of my bike, and after reading about your experiences I'll make sure to keep as close to original pipe lenghts as possible. I can also report, after having cut it open, that apart from being ugly and very heavy, the standard "stubby manifold" rear header pipe is also very, very badly designed, with really restrictive welds, and deformed bends all over. A "real" full system like the ones you're using seems almost like a "must have" for better exhaust flow on these bikes.

Hey Mike,
Just got done reading your Bike Porn website and I must say that if you get any better, you might have at least one stalker/groupie harassing you
You did ask for suggestions, so I have to drop a few cents in your direction:
1. I highly recommend getting the rear header loop ceramic coated (at least internally if not externally as well) to avoid heat saturation of the rear shock spring thus causing it to fatigue quicker during a race, or even during the grid shuffle. On my road bike I can touch headers after 10 minutes of shutdown with internal and external coating.
2. If I read your blog correctly you were worried about heat distortion of the pistons then I recommend ceramics on the Piston face, and even on the combustion chamber and valves. The company I used has had drag racing teams report of minor distortion of their pistons but the face remained intact because the ceramic held the shape. I can only speculate that the Engine temperature that has been plaguing you will be further reduced since heat will be conducted out of the head and not through it.
3. There are oil shedding coatings as well that can be used to help keep oil congregating in areas you don't want it, say the rods, underside of the piston, parts of the crank. Cooling is still achieved, but the oil won't stick around on rotating parts and reduce parasitic drag.
I used http://www.hpcoatings.com/default.aspx for all my work, but I just had the pistons and headers done. They did everything they said they would in a timely manner, and the product was of good quality.
I hope to read about a 100hp engine from your team soon. I can only imagine the prestige and victory that would come from all of your accomplishments.
Good luck is exteneded, great tenacity is admired.

I hope all is well with you. Porn, I don't know if my stuff is quite at the level of Porn

I have used HPC coatings, as well as PolyDyn, Swain and others. We have seen small gains, but what I also found by ceramic coating the entire chambers, ports, pistons and valves was, the heat had nowhere else to go but into the rings. The rings were trying to transfer so much heat through such a small cross-section that the rings overheated the piston ring lands and melted the pistons. That kind of turned me off to that little trick.
I built a piston oil jet system that squirts a solid spray of oil to the undersides of the pistons. This pulled the heat out right away. It was well woth the efforts. I think that the oil shedding coatings would actually hurt the ability to pull the heat out of the piston and transfer it into the oil. Not sure though.
I completely agree about ceramic coating the pipes. We will be doing that to the fianl pipes for sure. Probably only on the inside as I really like the golden color of heated stainless.

Your not doing a very good job of keeping me from being your #1 fan when you keep posting engineering wizardry... J/K of course.
Every time I think about what your doing I keep forgetting your thinking about a racing application where I have my thoughts on a street application. Makes total sense that the rings would bear the brunt of the heat when your living in the 5 digit rpm range.
Not sure if it was this post, but you said you are in need of transmissions. NC30 or NC35? I have an NC35 tranny sitting in a box if it is what your looking for...

Loved the new updates Mike. Let me know when you get the mills sorted as I'd like to do the cbr front swap in the future . . . if I ever get the big valves so Jim can rebuild the motor

The newest Undertail Exhaust ("Curly-Q2") KICKS ASS!!!! We've reached a new peak of 93.5hp on 91 Octane pump fuel. Hoping to test with race gas in a few weeks when I go back up to the shop. With fresh race gas, we're expecting 95.0+hp!!!!!!
