rear Tyre- Size 160/60-18 will fit
i want new tyres for my nc30. I see that lot of tyre-manufactures will give tyres relese for rear in size 160/60-18 for the stock NC30 rear wheel. I cant belive that, because my 150/60-18 BT010 and BT090 have only 4mm clearance to the stock 525 chain. So I think that a 160 rear one will have contact with the chain. Someone experiance with it? Because a lot of interesting brandnew tyres are available in 160/60-18.

i have a 160/60-18 on my nc30, standard chain and no spacers etc and have no clearance issues, though it is close - i can take some photos when i get home if you like to see how close it is.

its a michelin tyre, cant remember the model. as for clearance will have to measure the distance but i know for sure it does not rub and theres no damage to the tyre from the chain either. will have a look tonight.

It is not the right size though is it?
It is too tall and balloon like IMO.
BT090s can be had, 092's too and the new GPR12 from Dunlop - al in the correct H rating for bikes of our type and speed.

BT090 and Dunlop Alphas (BT12 too?) are for trackdays, not useable for me for all day riding, the lifetime about 2000 kmCMSMJ1 wrote:It is not the right size though is it?

Lot of tyre Manufactures give releases for the 160/60-18 (BT016, Bt021, Bt023, Pilot Road 2, Pilot Roat 3, etc..)
In my OEM vehicle Documentation are both sizes released, so i thing the size cant be wrong.
An 160/60-18 would be 6mm higher than a 150 one so i think its no baloon, and to tall? A RS250 use a 160 on a 4.5 rim too.
I think i will take the Bt16- if it fits perfectly like topic before
Where do you have the Info that the alpha 12 is available- i dont found some on there german Homepage. Is this a tracktire too?

does a 160/60 affect the handling/steering
once had a vfr750fs that had a 180/55 on it felt vague until i changed it for the correct sized 170/60 which would makes me bit wary of changing whilst 150s can still be had .

Re: rear Tyre- Size 160/60-18 will fit
I've never had a 150/60 on my bike as that size is nearly impossible to get here in the states, but the 160/60 does raise the rear a bit, and it seems to turn in quite well. A 160/60 is the standard size for an SV650 which also uses a 4.5" rear wheel, so its not like the tire is being forced to fit an odd sized rim.
There are some pics of my NC on my FB page http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 2c204c66f1
The rear tire does look kinda baloonish compared to the 120/60 now that I take a second look!

The VFR750's that used the 170/60 tire had a 5" rim, the 180/55 is meant for a 5.5" generally speaking.davethetrucker wrote:does a 160/60 affect the handling/steeringonce had a vfr750fs that had a 180/55 on it felt vague until i changed it for the correct sized 170/60 which would makes me bit wary of changing whilst 150s can still be had .
