Nc35 rear caliper upgrade

Post by domski1 »

Right I have done a few searches on caliper upgrades and have found that the cbr and sp1 front calipers are a direct upgrade on the front of my rvf but can't find much on the rears, the pistons on the rear caliper are seized solid and the pad retaing pin has been rounded off so I am looking at upgrading it to a newer caliper? Anyone know if any will bolt straight on and will I also need the corresponding master cylinder? Cheers.

I saw an RC45 rear caliper on ebay for £750 if you're interested

It just aint worth it, get a rebuilt standard 1 on there & it'll be like a brand new "upgrade" compaired to a solid caliper.

Think I will pass on that one then!

Is it usually just a case of pumping out the pistons cleaning them up fitted new seals and refitting ?

I can get the HRC rear Nissin calipers brand new for just over £250. Why that one on ebay is at £750 I have no idea. I have one fitted to the back of my '45 but it doesn't do much. Mind the stock one never did much either really.

We all know why an RC45 rear caliper is £750 on ebay:
1, because its ebay & there are a lot of muggy you whats out there,
2, its from an rc45
& 3, the HRC badge, its worth £500 more & @ least 15bhp on a good day.

& yes, get the pistons & seals out + anything else attached, clean it & then put it back together, with what-ever replacement parts are required.

I use a 16mm socket with a tapered / ground off edge, to knock into the pistons & then wind them out, sounds brutal but its nice & easy when / if the caliper is off the bike.

Someone does a pair of new stainless pistons on ebay for £23 posted (i think) & you can get a seal kit for £8, add some new pads & you'll be as good as gold.

Check out Ricky's (porndog) rear caliper, it looks better than new

For those interested i know someone that can supply a mini ISR type rear caliper for around £125, only snag is your need to fabricate your own bracket but these days that isnt to difficult.

Same goes for the HRC RC45 caliper.

I've got a drawing of the caliper bracket needed if it was ever required. It also uses M7 bolts so you'd need to buy a couple if taps.
