Rebuild shopping list.
Hi V4 experts
I picked my first bike up on Friday, its gonna be abit of a project as not been on the road for a while and needs some serious tlc. Its done the best part of 45,000 miles and came with no service history so unsure of anywork thats been done, thought Id strip it down to check everything out and for peace of mind.
Im new to bikes know my way around cars but carbs are black majic to me! Been doing some homework, got a Rick Oliver parts list although unsure of whats likely to be needed. Wondered if anyone can make some suggestions of whats likely to be needed. Not got a massive budget but if there are any upgrades worth doing then im all ears
My list so far:
Chassis
Clutch/ Brake levers
Front mudguard brackets (the ones that mount to the forks)
Body work respray/ repair
Suspension
Fork Oil (10w)
Oil seals
Dust Seals
Are the springs worth replacing?
Brakes
Piston Seals - are the pistons worth replacing or is a refurb normanlly sufficient?
Braided hoses
Discs / Pads all round
Wheels bearings / Seals
Engine
Oil Filter
Oil (10w40)
Slump washer
Spark plugs
Coolant bottle (currently a water bottle!)
Coolant - Will OAT coolant be compatible?
Throttle cable - feels very slack.
Air Filter
Clutch
Gasket set
Sprockets - Read a 14t is better for city riding, what about the rear?
Chain - to match sprockets?
Exhaust - blowing
Exhaust gaskets
Restrictor washers - will be on an A2 licence
Carbs
Used to injectors so need to read up on carbs.
Also what specialist tools will be needed, had a look and haynes and it lists half a garage although learnt not to trust haynes too much.
Mass of questions I know and realise its hard not seeing the bike but any guidance would be appreciated.

Rebuild shopping list.
Hi mate the 1st thing I would do is valve clearance .
There's a sticky post in the workshop section on how to do this
As for the carbs there's also a sticky post in the workshop section on how to clean and adjust things.
Also check the clutch, throttle cables, chain and sprokets

Yer have read through them, must say there are some great how to guides on this forum. Didnt understand everything but sure it makes more sense when you have the bike apart in front of you!!

Re: Rebuild shopping list.
which version of vfr is it as there are a few, you might find the carb sticky a problem unless you have an nc30 or 35
I saw it so I took it!

Hi mate,
Coolant - get silicate free coolant and mix it approximately 50/50 with distilled water.
Throttle cable - have you tried adjusting the cable to get rid of the play?
Is your bike a 30 or a 35? 14/40 gearing is what I run on my 30 and it's spot on for the road in my opinion. Good gain in acceleration and not over revving cruising on the motorway.

It's a nc30, 89, G reg.
Perfect I'll go 14/40, so assume that would that be a 525 chain.
