Flat Battery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My battery keeps going flat or not having enough charge to start my bike so I am having to jump start it, is this just a case of a dud battery or is it the reg/rec ? or maybe even the alternator ? what does the reg/rec do ? if its dead which one should I buy as I have heard the yamaha ones are better but not sure which year model to use ? any ideas guys :-)

it regulates the power created from the alternator that gets charged in to the battery and then rectifies any spikes the charge.
cant say on the yam Reg/rec.

how old IS your battery? over 3yrs old?
if so time for a change anyway.
test the bike for battery output while bike is switched off/idle and revving.
post the voltages up as the readings will tell if reg/rec is on its way out.

not sure how old the battery is I have had the bike since decemeber but the battery is probably over 2 years old at a guess I have bought a bettery tester today which when the bike is running will tell me if the alternator is working if it is does this mean its the battery not the rec/reg ?

if it gives you a voltage reading.. stick the probes on to the battery and post up here what the readings are for:
bike switched off: ..........V
bike started up and on idle:..........V
Bike revving up and held at a higher than idle speed:..........V

with those readings people here can tell you more. i just know that is the info they need.
