Does the de-restriction mod on the cdi unit, the one with putting the 2k resistor in remove the rev restrictor or just the speedo resistor?

The resistor mod will remove the 180 km/h limiter.

It also allows the speedo unit to be removed/unplugged without the bike going into a limp home mode (cuts spark to 2 cylinders over 5k rpm or so). You don't need to use a resistor, just run a wire from 12v +ve to the orange/blue wire cdi wire

he hrc cdi raises the rev limit to 15.5k rpm.

Limp home mode, what sort of symtoms will that cause, only my track bike has a hrc unit on but went donington the other week and had to call it a day at dinner because the bike was flat as fook but would rev through the revs right through red line?

The bike won't go into 'limp home' mode if you have an hrc cdi.

If you remove/unplug the clocks with a standard cdi, it cuts spark to 2 cylinders above 5.5k rpm. Check for spark from all 4 plugs over this rpm if you're not sure.

I know of a certain someone that went onto track like this, it still revs to redline but has less power. :oops:

Sounds like your bike is down a cylinder or 2, could be related to above.

Are you sure it's an hrc cdi? The letters on an hrc cdi start with 'NKA' (standard starts with MR8).

Its a copy unit from a local company here in uk. Got my road bike which I'm gonna change coils then plugs, only I put a new set in just before donington but have been told that plugs can be faulty from new.

If this cdi only advances ignition and raises the rev limit then a good chance it will actually go into limp home mode.

Just run a wire from +ve to the orange/blue cdi wire (don't cut it) and it will sort it if this is the case.

Fixed the track bike. It was a crimped on spade connector on the front coil that wasnt making a decent contact.
Something so bloody simple that costs and causes so much hassle.

So can someone explain how you would wire from the +ve to the orange/blue wire without cutting it? Cause i think i have the same issue. I removed the original speedo off my nc35 and left the wires hanging, i think i caused some sort of short but around that 5k range the bike flutters. I removed the speedo cause im installing a koso rx2 on it but realised how much of a mission it is so ima take it to someone to fit it. But anyways can someone explain the wire connecting?

use splice connectors if you don't want to cut
