I'm new to Cbr 400's, NC 23 or NC29??

Post by rosseden »

Hi all, im a newbie here but hoping someone in the know can offer me some advice.....

So, my mrs has decided she wants to get off the back of the bike and onto the front...... shes a midget, not literally, but not far off..... we have looked at all sorts and it seems the CBR 400 is a really good bet for little people.

Im hoping that someone can give me a few pointers about the differences between the Tri Arm and Gull Arm models, and anything i really need to look out for when buying one.........

Personally i think the NC29 looks less dated, but the Mrs doesnt seem bothered either way, i have trawled here, and google and im still not much wiser.......

Any help greatly appreciated, oh, and if anyones selling a nice one then feel free to give me a yell!

thanks

NC29's are better for midgets as the front of the seat is narrow, meaning you can reach the floor better.

I personally prefer the NC23 over the 29, classic race bike looks....

:o MIDGET! You mean a person of restrictive growth ;)

Hi Ross, Ok, Im a shortie (as I keep saying) I found the NC23 to be a tad higher when my mate had one and really was better on his NC29, now it depends how small your wife is but she should really try them both out if possible, if she is really tiny like me then theres only one option and thats the 29. There is also the reach to consider as its quite long and that even has a bearing on taking up leg room as your stretching further foward, stretching your calf muscles more. If it helps I put a pdf up taken from greybike where they test different size bikes. Also there is a recent thread in this section where there is a general talk about lowering the 29, that might help.

edit: found it http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/1924642 ... 3-meg?da=y

BTW I get lots of girls swooning over my bike, so its safe to say they like the look of the nc29, shame they dont swoon over me though.

Not sure about the nc29 tho
And my nc35 feels a bit higher than my old nc23 but I can still touch the floor lol
I would say take your other half and let her chose coz they u can't get the blame lmao
Good luck

thats good to know, cheers lads, shes about 5.3 and a bit or something, so im guessing she ought to fit on both by the sounds of it.......

Other than looks are there any major mechanical differences etc, or is it essentially the same bike underneath?

It think the NC23 looks quite nice when its in a bright ish colour, like red etc, for some reason the darker ones look a bit dated...... but the NC29's seem to hold their own a bit more against newer bikes on appearance.

Has anyone also had one of these and / or a VFR400, thats always an options but im told maintenance can be spendy?

Thanks again

Well like I said I use to own a nc23 and now nc35
I never spent any money on my nc23 and she still run really nice but i was 19 at the time lol
On my nc35 I will spend as much money as I can to keep it running sweet as it's a bike to keep.
I recon service wise they both the same, both Honda 400cc but one is inline 4 and the other one is a v4 and both r hondas

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them, and I don't think any of them could be called the 'best' - they all have their good points. Perhaps you should decide between IL4 and V4, or which you like the look of most.

The Nc29s are good for the vertically challenged, and this is a good price for a bike if it's as good as he says
