Hello, I am starting to get very confused with this rear shock!
The shock has six adjustment settings, six highest preload, one lowest. I have a Haynes manual and it says to increase preload which in turn increases rear ride height, turn the collar of the shock clockwise. Did this but seems to be gathering height when turned anti-clockwise, also there is a small bold which I assuming is the marker and when turned fully anti-clockwide rests on six.
Either I am looking at the wrong marker or the Haynes manual is wrong which I very much doubt.... Help?!

Just tested with my Dad sitting on the bike on both extreme settings and full anti-clockwise gives a 5cm rear height increase, therefore turning the collar anti-clockwise increases the preload!
I am now sure that this is not a VFR 400 NC30 shock because:
1: I noticed there are 7 settings not six, Haynes manual states that there are six
2. Haynes manual for both earlier and later VFR 400 nc30 shocks states that increasing preload is always clockwise
I am pretty sure before fitting the shock absorber had a Showa sticker on it which would identify it as a Honda would it not?
Does anyone know of a rear shock with seven settings, altered with a C spanner, in my case a oil filter wrench
and increases preload anti-clockwise? Is it a CBR600 shock?

I'd stop getting hung up on the anti clockwise or not option.
The preload does not affect ride height. It would affect the sag of he bike..and if it was already too soft it would seem to be higher up..but it is not..really..
The option on the shock body shows the way, it has serrated teeth and it is as obvious as the balls on a pig which way is the correct direction to increase preload.
I'd stop getting hung up on the anti clockwise or not option.
