NC30 K 1989 starting problems

Post by mikey65 » Sun Mar 20, 2011 10:44 am

Hi all

I pick up my new NC30 this week and rode it home 40 miles. It seemed to run fine but when i tried to start it again over the weekend it would not start. I charged the battery and it fired up but then cut out.I have also tired to bump it but that diddent work. I also notice the throttle response was a bit slow. I intend to rebuild the bike again in time the exhaust is original as is the fairing grey black and red. The chain and sprocket look ok, I have checked the frame the no is NC30 1002042 and the engine no is Nc13E-1202128 this all ties in as being a Jap import 1989. Please can any one help me out. My mechincal knowledge is low but i am thinking of taking to a Garage to get it running again and to give it the once over.

Any feedback would be grateful.

Also the bike has 38600KMs on he clock.

Hi, And welcome to the joys of the V4
Things to check;
30A main fuse,
reg/rec may be playing up. Very common with these bikes,
has anything been done to the airbox/carbs?
what mods have been done to the bike?

Have you checked the fuel? This might sound daft but what position is the tap in and how much fuel in the tank.
I saw it so I took it!

Hi

Yes i have check the fuel gauge is in the on postion. I have been testing the Rectifer/ connection block with a multimeter and I think it points to that. I will also check the 30A fuse. The bike looks like it has not been altered at all. The guy who sold it to me has only done 3000miles on it since 2004 I have all the MOT certs right back to when it came into the country.

When was it last used regularly?

If it has been sat for a while you'll need to get the carbs cleaned out as the petrol turns to slime and gunk.

It is easy enough and better to do it yourself, rather than be rogered by the garage prices..

Cheers guys

Just checked the fuses there all fine. Just double checking the rectifer if that is faulty is that why it is playing up.
I will also looking at cleaning the carbs. Just had the fuel tank off and looked at the air filter thats going to need replacing. The guy gave me a oil filter and the original frount hoses. He said that the pluygs had been changed 500miles ago about a year ago.

Sounds like your idle is turned up too high (screw near the choke)
