sluggish power delivery??

Hi everyone my rvf400 seems to drink a lot fuel @ the moment,recomended idle is 1200 rpm (i think).so why is it that @ every set of lights or when i become staitionary i have to adjust the idle.It seems to rev slow between 3-4000 rpm then it picks up,it went of the clock the other day but it held back a bit?.i have cleaned all the jets(as they were all dirty) checked the plugs there fine,starting to loose patients a bit now & i'm doing a track day @ brands on thursday, so need a nice delivery of power.Any suggestions???...

when are you initialy setting your idle if you do it from cold then it will read higher when its hot.also alot of nc / nc35s ive rode have a slight flat spot on them then pick up fine after that ive had ones that have is like yours 3-4000 rpm and others as high as 7-8000 rpm.

Chances are if your jets were dirty, then the whole carbs will need a good going over:

Set float heights, clean jets (pilots, mains, emulsion tubes, etc), set pilot screws, give them a good clean and balance, and go from there.

sorry jacking your thread but how do you check the float heights and adjust them, also what is the standard height. I have justed changed my main jets. Thanks

What bike have you got? The rvf and vfr float height spec is different.

the hrc springs and 0.5mm shim mod gave my rvf a better midrange although anything below 6k is still a bit slugish

Hiya, your choke isn't sticking on is it? Also make shure the your throttle cables aren't to tight.
