Hi Mo,
Nope all spacers are the same. If you use the 35 mounting bolts, you can use the lower fixings on the 30 engine but make sure the threads on the engine are clean as i stripped the thread on one bolt when mounting mine
As i mentioned to DM, if you have the gearchange cover from a 35 spare use that as it has a needle bearing in and i think the gear changes are smoother.
Cheers

Right on closer inspection of the 30 engine ive just picked up the front head mounts are completly shagged, broken off with no thread left in the head.

Now as the 35 frame has 2 mounts for the front of the engine can i get away with just using the lower front mount instead? :scare:

Only other option is swap the head which i do have but id rather not if i can get away with option 1

If you try that I shall laugh at you when your engine drops out the bottom of your bike half way up a mountain in the Pyranees. ;)

 yeah i had thought of that, engine is now back out with the head stripped off, gaskets ordered and new head needs de coking, whats the best way to do this while the head is bare?

Im gunna have to pull a few late nights on this one to get it ready in time :o

I don't know if this would be the correct way but I'd just use one of those funny looking brushes that are a bigger version of one of these to get the worst of it off

I'm assuming you'll be lapping the valves in and replacing the valve stem seals as well Tony? You may as well since you're in there already.

A head gasget is £40 a throw and those stem seals are a joke. It the rear head is OK I'd leave it mate.

Yeah even doing 1 head is nearly the price i paid for the engine.

Right theres always plan B, slightly barbaric but if it works and saves me £100 then all good. Where the mounts have snapped off its left a 5mm deep hole in one side and a 10mm deep hole in the other, firstly how thick is the head? can i get away with drilling a little deeper? IIRC doesnt the 35 head need drilling and tapping to fit a 30 frame so surely theres space in the 30 head to drill a little deeper and retap a thread. I'll then drill the thread out of the broken off mounts and use them as spacers.

your thoughts?
