nc30 running rough at 6k

Post by pugparcels »

right, quick run around the block this afternoon to check nothing falls off and i can stop when i need to etc, and i have found she is running really rough at 6k.

standard cut system with race can, 118 front & 120 rears, standard filter and pilots set to 2 & 1/4 turns as per cammo's guide. i took her out earlier last week and she ran rough then, however when i took the carbs off and checked the pilots i had set them to 2 & 1/2 ( god knows why? ) so when i put them back in earlier i set them to 2 & 1/4 and she seemed better but still not right.

so is it worther winding the pilots back in another quarter to 2 turns or should i being looking at something else as the cause?

both times she was warmed up for a good 10 mins before going,

Describe the issue - is it bogging down, revving slowly, not revving at all, miss-firing.
Your jetting seems about right for your spec, I had the same spec on my old NC30 with the same jetting and it was perfect.

that would help! sorry i would say she is bogging down, nice and smooth up until 6k then she goes really rough through the 6 / 7.5 k mark. if you open the throttle more to counter this you 'run through' the bad spot then she keeps going and seems fine after this.

Well the NC's have a notorious flat spot around the 6-7.5k RPM mark so perhaps you could just be experiencing this?

Or is it really that bad?

i have a flat spot on my fireblade, this is because i removed the butterfly valve in the exhaust for a straight through system i dont mind this minor flat spot for the other gains i got by doing this.

the nc is a bad flat spot, she really bogs down and it doesnt sound like bike coming around the corner it just sounds like a noise on wheels if i am close to or in that 6k area, i think i may try the original 2 turns on the pilot settings and see what result i get from that.

Are all rubber flaps/snorkles/filter in place?

double check your carb settings and check for signs of wear, its easy to get sidetracked and turn something the wrong way but if it was running fine before you started playing with it then chances are you've overlooked something.

the only reason i am going to try the pilots on the original setting is because i noticed when i set it at 2 and a half then found an improvement on 2 and a quarter then maybe two turns out only may help improve things again. I have nothing to loose by trying it.
