derestriction help

Post by elrikos » Sun May 10, 2009 10:15 pm

hi there,
aside from blowing up my engine i'm wiring in a set of koso clocks (forgot about the gsxr clock option when a set of koso came up very cheap!).
anyway i know theres a speed restriction in the stock speedo and i'm going to need to get around this as the stock speedo won't be fitted any more. I've identified the wires (orange/blue, green and brown i think!). I seem to recall a solution was to wire a resistor between 2 of these wires. I've had a search about but cannot find the post. Could someone advise what value resistor and which wires i need to bridge?
Thanks
Rich

off the top of my head it is orange/blue and brown that you bridge with a 2.2k resistor.

Check the CBR section or PM the lovely Leopard Pagan - she has the skills... :spank:

The 2K2 resistor needs to go between the Orange/Blue and the Black/White wires!

hi guys
thanks very much for that. will try it out when i get the engine in! i've got blue/orange, green and black/brown wires. green is ground and black/brown appears to be a switched live. i'm assuming that the black/brown is the one your referring to?
cheers
Rich

I think NC35 is referring to the cdi end, not the speedo end, it's easier to do the mod there (especially as you'll be replacing you clocks!).

Ah, that clarifies my query in the other thread too - thanks for clearing it up (inadvertantly ;) )

Sorry this might seem like a completely stupid question.

Derestricting an NC35, downloaded the RVF400 NC35 Resistor Mod Instructions from the docs section. My question is do I need to perform the mod at the speedo plug end and the CDI, or just one or the other?

Hi mate, you need to run an extra wire from the orange/blue wire (anywhere along it - cdi [tail] end is easiest) to the positive terminal on the battery. All you're doing is running 12v to the orange/blue wire.

You don't actually need to use a resistor on the nc35, have done plenty it's a myth.

Sorted!

Cammo,
I'm getting a little confused (not a hard thing to do admittedly!) about what is the correct derestriction method for the RVF. I was going to do exactly as shown in the pdf found in the document library, but now you've thrown a spanner in the works ;) by saying run another wire off the orange/blue wire to the battery. Do both methods achieve the same result? Also, what is the other end (opposite to the CDI) of the orange/blue wire connected to when the wiring harness is stripped down for a racebike?
