I've had a response from Felix, our man with the skills.

He reckons it is doable and so I would like to gauge interest in this.

We are looking at a rough guess of £100 - depends on quantity and whether it is viable.

I'll loan Felix a spare rear wheel to get a look at this.

benefits - you lose that bloody heavy rod inside the rear hub. HOw heavy is it? Anyone got one lying about? Will look awesome too..

Problems - err..should be reliable,

@ Reverse Cyl Jim - Is he up near you mate? Might be worth a visit ;)

So how wide is a standard duc wheel? 6" what tyre is it using?

Yeah lives in the same town as me and known him for a while.
He has also made a really nice cush drive system for it as the frame is housing a 2 stroke with a straight cut box. If i can help in anyway let me know

Not sure on the width but he is running a 160 rear. Runs about as close to the chain as my Dymag does on mine.

Prob a 5.5 is it??

Hmm and double Hmm. I have a 3 spoke front wheel. Would a 3 spoke rear go OK...

Im thinking more this with a duc front end and a set of narrow track Marchi Mags :drool:

That rear nut is a thing of beauty. Nonetheless, isn't it a rather expensive way to lose the rear bolt (42302-MR8-000)?

What else does the nut replace? The rear bolt, and the center lock spacer, the spring washer, the rear axle washer, possibly a rear wheel nut cover, and the split pin.

As a guide, if the mod saves 250g and cost GBP100, that's 40p per gram saved. It would be useful to know the actual weights. One hundred quid might be better spent on the big "saves"; an LiFePO4 battery, an ally rear sub-frame, or a digital dash. Rotating weight is more difficult to reduce inexpensively. Take Ti brake disc bolts @ $50 for 12, 68p per gram saved. Then there's BST carbon wheels, ceramic brake discs...

But, and it's a big "but" IMHO, the "Ducati" nut looks f'cking trick. :drool: What's wrong with spending money on beauty? :grin:

That is a tasty nut!! A good one for those trying to save all the weight possible (calling Netherlands :whistle: ).

Lightweight fibreglass bodywork is the biggest single weight saving IMO, those original panels are heavy! :grin:
