Build your own stand?
What with the weather improving and all, it's time to start working on the NC30 to get it going for spring...
But I'm broke and would struggle to buy paddock stands, let alone an ABBA.
So I thought the brain trust on here could help- have you built your own stand or found a workaround, even using wood or bricks?

Dave,
If you need to borrow an Abba for a weekend, you're more than welcome.

I used a 10mm rod through the swins arm bolt supported by 2 axle stands and you can also put the axle stands directly under the foot pegs if you have non folding type, one other option which I use is a 15mm box section through the top of the frame(where the shock mounts) and suspend from the garage roof

I saw it so I took it!

You should be able to find some fixed scooter pegs, and bolt them in place of the NC30 foot-peg bracket (part No.5 in this diagram).
Then, using a scissor jack (borrow one from a car puncture/tool kit) placed under the front pipes lift the bike up until the axle stands fit under the foot pegs. Remember to put a piece of wood between the jack and the pipes to spread the load.
It's worth getting a couple of mates to give you a hand so the bike doesn't topple over as it goes up, and to help slide in the axle stands.
If you're worried about knocking the bike over, secure it with some rope from the roof (in my case, from some balcony railings

It's all sounds more complicated than it is! Just give it a try. You'll be fine.

Matt, you're a true gent!
Pikey, I wouldn't even know where to start, but hanging your bike from the ceiling sounds awesome!
Tanto, would I be looking to get something like this?:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TROLLEY-JACK-2-To ... 3148wt_902
Then wedge thickish wood under the engine and let it sit on that and the axle stands? Would that be safe from the wind? (I don't have a garage so this would be done in my garden.
Cheers

If you look at a abba stand they aint a lot to em, if you can weld you could easily knock one up.

Scissor Jack
The scissor jack gets in low enough to get under the pipes + wood. A floor jack might get in there too, depending on the design. A bottle jack won't fit.
You'll need to support the bike very well if it's windy, esp. if you put a tarp over it. I'd rest the bike on a wood frame, and use 4" x 2" both sides, IIWU. If there's any chance you can get it undercover, that would make working on the bike much more comfortable.

Re: Build your own stand?
Built this a couple of years ago and it's still going strong. From memory the bit that goes into the hub is 31.5mm. Bought that from a local machine shop and the rest is bits of angle and tube that were knocking about my garage.

How hard can it be?

Re: Build your own stand?
Or how about fixed rearsets? Thats the bolt that goes through the middle of the hollow foot peg. Couple of axle standsand you're sorted.
