2nd battery has died...

About 3 or 4 months ago i bought a new battery cause my old one died. Now this new one has died to. I have a alarm on my bike and it is not really needed as i park in secure parking so maybe thats draining my power? I didnt have this alarm untill about a month or two before my first battery died also... Maybe its time to replace my regulator rectifier.. and how hard is it to get the alternator of my bike.. its a NC35

Its either the reg/rec or a dodgy wire in the alarm install is causing a power drain. Check the homepage, all the testing info is there.

Sounds pretty obvious the alarm is causing your problem?

Exactly my thoughts also.. but i would not like to just jump into it and assume things, id like to look at every angle, ill dis connect my alarm and see how she goes

If you're all about doing it properly, why not do a current leakage test?

Theres not many angles to look at this from, check your charging/electrical system. Takes 10 mins and your have your answer.

No.

These bikes have poor reg/recs. Motorcycle batteries don't last that long due to being smaller, more abused, subjected to vibrations, not being used often in a lot of cases and not being kept charged.

As a battery ages it cannot take as much charge as a new battery.. the reg-rec burns out trying to recharge an old battery.

When a reg-rec burns out it can either stop charging the battery or overcharge the battery boiling it away.

Always best on these bikes to check the charging system when you have battery problems, buying a new battery with a busted reg/rec could just kill the new battery.

I see a few likely possibilites.

1. Charging system bust and under-charging battery [Battery probably ok, needs recharging and system fixing]
2. Charging system bust and over-charging battery [Battery probably killed, charging system needs fixing]
3. Alarm draining battery [charging system ok]
4. Alarm draining battery [charging system bust]

So...

Disconnect the earth lead from the bike, put your multimeter to AMP testing. Make sure ignition is switched off.

Go from where the earht lead was with one probe to the earth lead with the other. Note the current drain on the battery.

You can also test the battery by fully charging it with a bike charger and leaving it disconnected from the bike for a few days then see if it still has the power to start the bike (an internal short will drain the battery)

Test the altenator and reg/rec after the above to make sure there both outputting voltages within tolerance.

You should know the cause then :-)
