Project NC23 begins.

Post by LozVTR »

hey all,

Ive finally got round to starting the project 400, not much progress today basically removal of fairings and seeing what I need to replace.
I picked up the bike for £450 with no tax but MOT until November.

You've gota love Honda build quality though, its a 1988 bike and not one seized bolt (so far)...lol

anyways heres a few pics:

The bike had been dropped in a field before I bought it but it was only cosmetic... Once I removed the fairing I could here a rattle from inside the air inlet?

look what I found

Image

luckily for me and the engine, the inlets have a mesh at the airbox end

Ive not got to the airbox itself yet so im not sure what state thats in.
So at the end ofplay today the bike looks like this:

Its still a runner though and starts on the button which is awsome, I managed to knock the DB killr out of the can too, I had to unbolt it and twat it with a pole from the other end because it had never been removed in 2 years.

Ive got a short clip of the bike running too:

more updates when I get to continue, the full stainless system is in good nick though, I think most of the work is going to be in the suspension area and the brakes.

to be honest I want to make it into a all round bike.

I want to use it during the colder months getting to work and back
(Il put the SP1 to bed)

I also want to use it for trackdays and occasional Sunday blasts.

So really im looking at leaving the engine alone and concentrating on making it handle/stop well.

As for the look il probably keep it simple and go for a satin black winter test bike like the moto gp / wsb guys do.

I dont know yet though, just bouncing around ideas, 1st task is to get it stripped and clean the whole thing through.

as i think they look great, and would make a unique 400...
thats just my interest,
there is plenty of info in regards to making these handle, and trust me...u may want to make it a track bike lol

The video of the bike running, is that with the baffle removed from the exhaust?

Sounds really good and I want a new can for mine. I've seen those cans on Ebay but wasn't sure whether they were any good. :D

yep thats with the DB killer out.

It is a full stainless system though and not just the end can.

Im not sure who made the system because its not marked anywhere.

So if I put the vtr motor into the cbr.

would that make it HONDA RC23?
