Re: over priced much?
Selling a bike just after a full restore is very common and most people dont start off a project to sell but it does seem to happen!!..
I think what happens is you put so much time and energy into a project you get it on the road looking and riding like you want you then see something else that takes your fancy and there you go.. You sell the last project for the next and start over again as its doing the job more than owning the bike that alot of people seem to crave..
This seems to happen a lot in the RD and KR1 world, I have lost count of the times I have seen a full restore take place only for it to be sold within months of the completion, Im sure in the coming years this will be a feature in the 400 world also..
To be honest I like the Tyga/Jap4 kits as it gives you a option if you want it, and my god Tyga have at least invested time and money into the Grey market and for that I am thankful.. I also dont really see an issue with fitting a kit to even a top notch NC as you can always put it back to stock form if you wish, it doesnt mean we have lost a NC forever as it is only a bolt on mod..
I also think we can get caught up in looking at the 400 market from a seasoned riders point of view and forget that new and younger riders are coming to the table everyday and a 400 is always a option esp the way insurance is going and such.. Now many people do think the 400 market bikes look old and for them a Tyga kit will be the option and for a lay out of around 2.5-3k you have a modern looking sportsbike with all the ability most riders could not find the limit to... But then you will always get someone that will say well for 2.5k you could get a GSXR Srad
I know what I would rather have...

Re: over priced much?
Ray you are dead right. i too am pleased there is a market for the aftermarket kits for the 400's
IMO i think its given the classic 400 a new lease of life and appeal to the younger and more creative. It certainly helped bridge that gap between a has been and a classic.
Also meant more chance for us to buy the cast off OE parts as they come into the market to stock pile for our restorations.
Also you mention about the bikes sold once the restore is complete - i can relate to that. my dad was very much interested in the restoration, and the process of start to finish. he had little interest in the bikes once completed and never rode them. For him the goal was the perfection and the journey more than the finished product.
I would happily buy the finished product, and am the other way round.
Good job we are all different i think.

Re: over priced much?
Im with you on that too, i know many people that have restored and sold bikes on but the only ones ive ever known to make there money back were the proper sought after classics. When will people realise they will NOT get back the time and money spent on doing something like this to a sportsbike, i mean does anyone wanna give me £7k for my RVF? No i didnt think so.
Running through the spec list quickly and totting up whats been spent doesnt even get near the asking price so how he thinks he can get more is a joke, that my only issue with this.

not sure where you are getting the prices from as when I add up all the bits your looking at nearly the asking pricw and that does not include the cost of the original bike. I think even at that money he is losing on the bike.
Full race exhaust Tyga moto maggot (Loud) £650.00
Race rear sets Tyga £200
HRC Cdi (average second hand one £200 new these days £350)
HRC Carb Kit £200 new when you could get them new now if you can get one £350.00
Tyga tiger eyes 3 Full Fairings (Street) £1150.00
Pazzo Short Brake + Clutch Leavers £140.00
Full Race Rep Spray Job (Altamura) £1500.00 average price
On top of this the bike has
Just been serviced (got to be a few hundred quid)
Oil, Oil filter, Air filter, Fuel Filter
Brand new Grips + Barends
Set Brand new Michelin Power Pure (0 Miles) £150.00
As I have stated all along though it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and with the spec of it Id be pretty confident that their will be someone out their that will buy it.

Re: over priced much?
Ok fair point, i havent added it up as its not the point im trying to make. No offence to anyone but REPLACING original parts with aftermarket parts no matter how flash it makes it look doesnt then make it worth the extra you've spent on it, maybe if you included ALL the original parts with the bike you'd have a better chance.
Dont get me wrong its a stunning looking bike if thats what you like, i admit i even like it a bit but...thats all it is, a nice looking bike. Id be ashamed to ask that sort of money for mine even tho ive spent much more on it, modifing bikes to that level is a financial minefield, breaking even is a bonus.
So the bike is running a full HRC setup with no filter, if so not a great idea for the road, if not then the HRC jet kit is pointless, and the HRC CDI, lets not get into this one. Its worth no more than a £150 ignitech unit at best, you'd be a fool to pay the asking price for these.
Im going to shut up now as this is starting to sound like im slating the bike, im not im just trying to justify my reasons

Re: over priced much?
If you spend all your time money and effort on an original making sure that it is the finest concorse example that you can possibly make then the asking price is generally what you would pay for a bike that has very low milage and been kept in the back of a garage for most of it's life, so restoring a bike is always going to cost the restorer more money than he will get back or even what it's worth.
Now if the person developing/customising the bike is someone who wants new fresh ideas then he/she will throw money at the bike turning it into the futuristic street hawk that they desire, it will never turn the heads of the originalists due to them being exactly that.
It's a mugs game unless you want to keep it for you. If not stop kidding yourself and be realistic.
