Is my bike ruined?
Okay so i'll start at the beginning as hopefully there's an excuse in there somewhere...
I recently (for want of a better word) got shafted by a local mechanic to sort out a carb issue I had, I had rejetted them to suit the full tyga system I installed and the bike after countless tries by myself wouldn't run well at all, so I found a company advertising the dyno service and figured I'd give them a go (Revolution Motorcycles), to weeks and a £500+ invoice I got the bike back (did include a set of BT92's), I felt a bit sore round the back end, but the bike was running well, turned out he had problem hearing me when I said call me if anything turns up and it starts to cost more than the £100 he quoted (not including tyres), and continued to do things like order a stainless steel screw set for the carbs, ruin the powder coat on my wheels as it has since started to flake, and replace plugs, oil etc... the later parts I'm fully capable of doing myself... Asked for a print out of the dyno testing and got a load of s@£! about how his machine worked on engine revs
, I knew then I had bent right over the man's counter and had been abused.
So since then I've ridden the bike on and off in total about 3 weeks commuting, had an off on black ice, and now (about a week ago) noticed a tapping coming from the engine which gets louder as it warms, worrying I removed the tank and fairing and have pin pointed it down (as best I can with my hearing) in the region of the rear spark plugs, so I've checked the plugs and they're tight, I've checked the rear exhaust bolts and they too are tight, I've checked the oil and found it pretty dry! shit, wtf, and bollox! not completely dry, but enough to make me shake the bike from left to right to get a trace.
I know the responsibility lies with me, but I'm gutted know and have no trust in mechanics, but I have a funny feeling that this is a mechanics issue.
Any ideas guys?
Matt

Re: Is my bike ruined?
Firstly, bud i would get a few mates and go get your money back PERIOD. this dude has shafted you
.
If he gave your bike back with a list of things he supposedly did, and it turns out you had no oil in your engine, i would get intouch with trading standards and talk to them you may have a claim in small claims court.
And he has damaged your wheels, you should get your bike back better than it went in, and it sounds liek you haven't.
Also fill it up with oil, and be gentle go for a ride and see how it feels.
I bet you are really piss*d. Hope you get your money back matey.
Let us know how you get on.

Re: Is my bike ruined?
Yep really pissed, but nothing was outwardly noticeable at collection, I conceded defeat as the bike was running better (as far as I could remember they had it 2 weeks), and was more ashamed of myself, the wheel problem I noticed when I had to plug the tyre after a puncture, as for the oil, I check it fairly regularly and have never noticed a massive drop in amounts so wrongly assumed I'd be okay after weeks of an oil change.
Just want some ideas and honest truth as to what could be making this tapping sound?

Re: Is my bike ruined?
Hi Matt. Sorry to hear this, these stories make my blood boil. Have you got an itemized bill of sale what the work cost? What was the charge for the tyres? Were they expensive compared to elsewhere?
You need an itemized bill of sale or confirmation on what he has actually done! Then Check the work! Hinsight is a horrible word but you shouldn't have accepted that a dyno had been done without a printout. With regards to no oil in the bike. Ive encountered these before in my job, the burden of proof lays with you. I doubt you will get much out of that avenue. I know that's probably not what you want to hear but I'm afraid he will just say "it had oil when it left here" or "you didn't ask me to check the oil, that's your responsiblity"
You need to pick holes in his work and check what he has listed in your bill has been actually done! Then you need to get that bill , if he doesn't agree tell him you will take the matter further! DO NOT accept the offer of '"i will try and sort it out for you!" Do not let that bike out of your sight!
Any problems ring me or pm me!
Kris
P.S if you need help let us know, I'm sure someone near can help!
If your doubtful about doing work on it

Very sound advice, and very level headed.ibby4585 wrote:Hi Matt. Sorry to hear this, these stories make my blood boil. Have you got an itemized bill of sale that the work cost? What was the charge for the tyres? Were they expensive compared to elsewhere?

Re: Is my bike ruined?
You could always say that the sump plug fell out due to him not fitting/torqueing it properly thus causing the off!!!!!!
I would go with option 1, kick the guy til he spits blood.

I saw it so I took it!

Re: Is my bike ruined?
Id do what kris said and ask for a itemised bill of what work he carried out and say its because you suspect the work carried out wasnt done properly and that you were over charged.
Set of BT92's £200 max fitted and thats ripping your arm off so that leaves £300 for sorting your carbs, ok he's brought new plugs(check that) so id pay for them but not the labour charges of all the stuff you never asked to be done.
Sorting those carbs would take an hour if your familar with them 2 hrs if your not so id like to see him try and justify what he's charged you.

Re: Is my bike ruined?
hindsight... it's a f@cker innit, I have been ummming and arrrghing over tis for ages now, but to answer a couple of Q's the price he gave for the tyres was 225 fitted, at the time I did get GF to quote me a pair and if I remember correctly was over £200 (he mention rubber was expensive at the mo).
I got a itemised bill at the time but left the bloody thing behind while scrapping the dust off the credit card, such a twat, think i might give him a call tomorrow to get a copy emailed over.
So what's the tapping? lol
Matt
Revolution motorcycles in Norwood Green, they now have a new website which no longer mentions the dyno...
http://www.revolutionbikes.co.uk/
but here's the google search which shows a dead link but mentions the dyno... (top link)
