Just Started a 3TJ Full Rebuild

Post by Daz H »

I just dug out a 3TJ that's been sitting in my lock up for about 5 years, looked a bit rough at first but came up OK after a clean. It's going to get a full strip down and rebuild over the next couple of months and I'll put some photo's on as I go.

If there's anything anyone wants a pic of while I'm working on it let me know as most things will be apart at some point.

It looks OK up to now, almost everything is there including all original bodywork, good downpipes and what seems to be a shock with damping (which was a shock). The forks have a bit of surface rust on the inner stanction so they'll be comming apart and may need replacing.

Things I need at the moment are:

Generator cover
Water pump cover
Screen brace - Got it!
Screen
Right hand clip on - Got it!
Rear light surround

If anyone has any of the above PM me!

The bike as I found it:

That doesn't to bad from the pics - I'll look forward to some more as the work goes on.

It's looking like a good one up to now:

Just got to get the shock and swing arm out then it's time to start rebuilding (the engine's already been out)

Lol, I didn't notice them... Honest! I'm hoping to get out for a few, gotta do my noob test in Feb first :o £60 for that and a load for a transponder etc might mean I miss the first round but I'll be there at some point.

I'll sell the FZR that should fund a few rounds!

Is the track day on 26th or 28th? I can't get time off work at the moment as houses are selling well again, it's year end coming up and I'm saving holidays for the new arrival in May.

I've started building it up but the battery I got for it doesn't fit so I can't test the electrics, bugger. My book says it should be a CB12AL-A2 but it's way too tall; will have to sort it on Monday.

Better luck next weekend!
