RE:Fairing Fasteners - can I get decent replacements?!?!?

Post by marty400 »

Hiya all,

RE:Fairing Fasteners - can I get decent replacements, that won't round off?!

Tried to take off the fairing for the 1st time this weekend. That was a trial!

The back end came off fine.

But the belly pan fasterners are screwed! (3 both sides)

Whats the best way to get quality replacments? As a set, individually?

Any good sellers?

Hope you can advise

Cheers

i have attempted to split my belly pan only once. it didnt come apart so i have left it as is.
my belly pan comes off as one whole section as to 3 separate bits.

Yup, agree with previous post. On a number of occasions I have removed and refitted my 'one-piece' belly pan with no trouble at all - especially if the bike is on a rear paddock stand (but I've done it with just the side-stand, as well). The only precaution I take is to slide a cushion under the pan before releasing the fasteners.

i do it all on my lonesome...
bike on side stand.
undo/remove side panels as normal
unbolt the SIDE bolts only in the belly pan. there are 3 each side.
on the last one be careful as the belly pan drops down.
on the non-side stand side, slowly roll the belly pan on to its side and slide out.
put a towel down before hand if your worried about paint job.
done it so often i am ok with out a towel.

when i put it back on, i slide it and roll it upright.
1st bolts in ate the top most, then the ones by kickstand/under swing arm.
last bolts in are a pig to line up..

thought i might resurrect this topic instead of starting anew...

you undo 3 fasteners to remove the upper side panels, right? two are 1/4-turn and one (rear-most) is a threaded bolt.
what is the point of there being any 1/4-turn fasteners if it's not all of them?
is there a way to convert an NC30 to full 1/4-turn setup (or as many as possible)?

because some bolts are in to the frame, not just in to another panel.
i have no problem with the way the panels bolt together.. apart from the belly pan.
next time i need to drop the belly pan. i'll film it so you can see how i do it.. probably in the next 2-3 weeks.

ah cripes, sorry - found this topic in a search and didn't realise it was in the CBR section.

I realise why one of the fasteners is a threaded bolt, but it seems that that one bolt makes it pointless for the other ones to be 1/4-turns.
That's all I was asking/pointing out...
