RVF headlight

Post by Pelle »

Today I made an attempt to register my RVF here in Sweden. Unfortunately, the inspector didn't like the lack of E-symbols on the headlight and the indicators so he didn't let it through.

The bike can be accepted if I could mount an SAE-marked headlight instead. However, I haven't found any E- or SAE-marked headlight for the RVF on the aftermarket.

Does anyone have any idea how I could resolve this? I want this bike on the road, not only on the track.

Pelle, I just checked my bike (she just sits behind me  ) and on the visible part of the headlight it only shows the Stanley 5xxx code. I thought the SAE number was visible, but I have not seen any E-mark on it before. Maybe it is on the back of the light unit. Did you check this?

Thanks for your reply. I just removed the front fairing and found nothing with an E or SAE on the backside. I'm trying to remove the light unit from the fairing but two of the screws holding it seems to be damaged as they just rotate. Removed the rubber backside and checked with a flashlight but still no luck.

Not sure what the 'SAE' stamp relates to, but I reckon the 'E' is for the European market, in which case the RVF400 headlight is unlikely to have one since it was never officially imported from Japan!
Would any other headlight be accepted just to get it passed, then replace it with the RVF unit again?

Thanks for your reply. My plan is what you wrote, I'll borrow a light from a friend's SV650 and mount temporarily during the registration process.

It'll look like the streetfighter from hell.

I had the same problem here in Norway as you have in Sweeden Pelle.

The easiest solution would be to borrow some E-marked headlights from a streetfighter and get them approved with those on and just mount your old fairngs back on.
That`s what I had to do and I got mine approved.

Today the bike got through and got swedish plates. In order to do this, I had to visually rape her. I do really feel sorry for her, but she'll be dressed up in her evening gown in notime!
