NC30 clutch question

evening gents, one for the more learned amongst us...

im having my clutch replaced shortly with all new plates, (steel and friction) so i placed the order with David Silver-
when i received my clutch plates i noticed that theyve sent me two separate types of frictions plates- eight of one set and two of another, they even have different stock codes on the invoice...
ive never heard of there being two special friction plates- do they go in a particular order or something?

any help would be greatly appreciated as im a bit lost here...

You got 8 frictions and 2 steels?
4 frictions 4 steels and 2 random frictions?

Pretty sure they are supposed to go some specific order..but saying that, I don't know which order.

The EBC kits don't have different plates..so they go in any way.

Am not convinced that it will make any difference. I'd have spoken with Rick Oliver and bought them from him too..you get the advice then

I think the 8+2 stack was only used on the K model, that's the 1989 one with the preload-only forks. L models onwards have 10 plates the same.

I'm not sure if the basket is different in the early model or not, but I'm pretty certain the metal plates are a different thickness. Assuming the basket is the same you should be able to use any set of friction plates in any model but would need the right metal plates to go with it...

My no9 bike is a K model and I've replaced the clutch twice in it now. First time with Kyoto plates and they were all the same (and shite)

Second time with EBC racing clutch and they were also all the same (and miles better than the cheapy Kyoto)

right, should have clarified- sorry :-)

got 10 friction plates, 8 of one type and 2 of another-
as far as i know my bike is an 89 model- older type forks and such.
i shall ask Mr Oliver his opinion me thinks- if anyone will know, itll be him.

Have a look at http://www.hondarvf.com/book/export/html/48 - about halfway down there's a table showing the various plate thicknesses. It looks like the steel plates are the same thickness on K and L models so if the basket is also the same you should get away with either set of friction plates.

Post back when you find out for sure though as I also have a K model...
