Variablevalves suck wrote:Hi Jeff, its simple ohms law, the standard coils are about 3 ohms and the stick are 1.5 so if you wire in series you add them 1.5+1.5 = 3 and then 12v / 3ohms=4 amps.
In answer to Tony's twin electrode plugs they are that way so the spark plug does not need indexing (plug shimmed to make electrode face the inlet).

Cheers, Thats great. I think i might have a go at installing them in the summer. And getting some of those pimped up plugs

An NC is for life, not just for Christmas!

Ive a good quality diagram of the wiring that i can post if you need it. I made my own loom using new connectors and if the guy can still supply them i could build the sub loom no problem.

Right just ordered a set of 600RR 03-04 coils complete with loom, now im guessing its not going to be as easy as just conecting up positive and earth to the loom so chris if you have that wiring diagram that'll be ace

I know i prob wrong here but, if you put them in series as sugested your only going to get 6v across each coil, so even tho there half the resistance you want get increase in energy across the coils, if me maths is right which at 2.30 in the morning it prob isnt.
I'd look more into getting a lower resistance normal coil and using the but not too low cos youll fry the CDI (ok i know it not a true cdi unit but hey ho), which would increase the energy input.
I have been thinking of a coil pack off a car but not had time to play yet.
Cheers
Ian

Ian- you should go to bed earlier, this way you would work things out correctly.

Ian- Keep drinking the late night oil and you should be given a star for the CORRECT info.
You will get a drop across the coils in series, dont know why i did'nt think about this, but was given the diagram by racers who are using it on the ZXR4. I went through this with Mike at BMC and when he put the sticks on Leons bike it gave problems when hot. I have a theory that the coils will happily run at under voltage untill a certain point so as my bike has a genny and 14.4V it is running ok but when mike ran on the ZXR with dead loss he's only got 12V at best and so the difference is causing the problems. This is no help to DM tho so i can only say its a lump it and see mod.

Hi mate, Ive got them on the Suzi and they work great, its even been on the dyno at BMC and runs up rael nice.
The thing is the series wiring will give a lower voltage and in parallel you get a mega amount of amps flowing that people say over heats the sticks. Try them and see if it runs as well as mine!

Ok shoot me down in flames here chris but wouldnt i need to wire up mine differently to your suzi? IL4 vs V4 and all that?
