NC30 forks - replace them myself, or leave for the pros?

Apparently there's little difference between the handling of the forks I mention will bring. I suggested it because some people like the upside down fork look. It is extra cash for fitting kits but no harder to fit than the std ones.

fitting kit's won't be a problem then. i'll ask around to get some more opinions on the forks. I hear the handling is great on the nc30 anyway so I porbably won't go through the extra trouble unless I hear great things about other forks. i'm glad to know the options though, thanks

get your self some late model forks for around£100-£120 then get hold of rick oliver and order a uprated spring kit for around £80 which comes with new springs , oil , and some instructions whilst your at it get some new front wheel bearings from him and some new head bearings at the same time then thats the frontend sorted , hes a member on here so drop him a pm and get one of his price lists emailed over to yourself.

Most of this is quite easy to sort out just think of a big mecano set take it apart put it back to together.. Use online manuels to help if needed NC30 parts fiche :: http://www.akhara.com/nc30/nc30parts/ although a workshop manuel is best.. I think Elliot motorcycles do a genuine Honda reprint manuel for about 20 quid, Google and Ebay are your friends for sourcing parts..
As was said invest in some tools "Halfords Professional" is a great starter set and a Abba/Used paddock stands NOTE front stand should be headstock mounted otherwise you will be unable to remove the forks as the other type of p- stand is fork mounted (easy mistake to make)...
Clean and regrease parts as you go.. Simples

Just a little tip about upgrading forks, its not going to be cheap. Id budget around £500 if you want RVF USD's by the time you've brought everything needed for the conversion. Fine if youve got it but a set of late type NC30 forks are just as good.

Oh and get your bike away from that mechanic, sounds as if a) he's trying to fleece you, or b) he hasnt got a clue about NC's. Either way thats not a good thing, i recently sorted out some carbs for someone that had been with a so called mechanic (with the bike) for 3 months to be serviced. A day or 2 after getting the bike back it wouldnt run at all let alone badly, i wont go into details but id be shocked if this mech knew anything about bikes let alone NC's, and for the privilage charged him £360!!

you know what your bloody right there matt, every spare penny i have gets sunk into my NC and it doesnt even have a registration yet
