Bike Finally Arrived...Have a Few Questions
So, my bike finally arrived after making the trans-America trip. It's not in perfect shape, but that will be remedied later on.

My question (the PO didn't know) are WTF are these things below. I'm guessing the reddish thing is a speed de-restrictor, but the other switch (hard to see, but you can see the tabs on the frame for its wiring routing) ...I have no idea what that could have been going to. Anybody have any guesses?

Can't see the photos as I'm at work bit I bet the second one is a manual switch for a fan, I'd put money on it. Is it on the left hand side of the frame, about where your left knee is?
How hard can it be?

top one is a posh delimiter - thats actually the name and it just removed the 112mph limit.
the stick on tabs are odd. rip em off someone's been guiding a wire or something. strip it to the bare bones and enjoy your project

I was thinking it was as well. I'll find out tonight when I'm able to start it up. It's on the right-hand side of the frame though.mick.mh2racing wrote:Can't see the photos as I'm at work bit I bet the second one is a manual switch for a fan, I'd put money on it. Re: Bike Finally Arrived...Have a Few Questions
Should be a nice interesting project.
Posh Firm Moto :-)
As been said, it's a derestriction box and wil allow the bike to go over 112mph (180km/h)
Not sure what those cable guides are for... maybe somebody had a cable / wire something else there.
I'd go with the take it all to pieces and overhaul it from the ground up, will save lots of time in the long run, espeically if you find something broke / worn.
These bikes are over-engineered and well made so theres no need to replace everything if it isn't broken.
Check all the bearings (headstock / rear hub, front wheel, swining arm) for wear / play and get them done first.
Valve clearances and oil / plug / filters change along with carb strip / balance / mod will help.
There great bikes and you'll have a lot of fun, but the stripdown / rebuild / check is a must if your serious about the bikes as these old JDM imports have often been fettled / botched by people who don't know what their doing (people here will put you right!) and can often cause the bike to run like arse.
The cable clips and unknown switch are potential examples of bodge.
Fortuantly your in good hands :D

Yeah, that bit is worrying. Hopefully it's nothing too sketchy. Strangly enough, it's not even connected. The PO doesn't know what it was either. I'll take a picture of the connector. Maybe that will help.Neosophist wrote:Should be a nice interesting project. The cable clips and unknown switch are potential examples of bodge.

That's possible, but if it was, they're no longer installed. I'll have to take some close-up pics of the switch itself and the connector. The only thing I can thing would be that at one time it control the rad fan(s) , but with the tabs on the frame, I'm not sure where it's going.hannakournikova wrote:heated grips
